Three Elven Kingdoms survive in the modern era: Erathior the Grey, Bavlar Kithis (the Dark Land), and the enchanted isle of Faerie.
Faerie is a strange, otherworldly place. The elves who inhabit it (called the Sidhe, Faerie Sidhe, or just Faeries) are strange and oft times cruel. They are natural magicians and weild fey magics unknown elsewhere. They are allergic to the touch of iron and steel (which acts as a poison to them). Legend says they are immortal, dying only when they are destroyed by iron or magic. Legend also says that holy powers do not work on them (or are anathema to them), and that they worship no gods or forces.
Bavlar Kithis isteh kingdom of the Dark Elven clans. Tall, twisted Quylar trees cover most of the land, blotting out the light of the sun. Where no quylar grow, the sky is perpetually overcast. Truthfully it is said that the sun never shines in Bavlar Kithis. The elves of Bavlar Kithis are a cruel and malevolent race. All other races are regarded as being inferiors, to be done with as they may. Other elves are hunted down and killed slowly and cruelly, using tortures devised with fiendish ingenuity.
The ultimate goal of these peoples is domination over the entire world, never more to be bound to anothers will. And this goal may not be out of their reach. Their warriors are trained in fighting styles that have been gleened over the course of millenia. And among the dark elves are some of the most powerful sorcerers in the world. Many of their spells are unique or of ancient design, spells which have not seen the light of day since the Lesser Sundering, many millenia ago. Dark Elves who follow the deities of the lower outer planes are some of the most dangerous and deadly opponents in the world. Often these serviters are given great power and rank in their masters heiarchies. Ironically, it is these among the Dark Elves who are most likely to lead them to their goal of dominion, and into the servitude of the outer dark. Attaining their goal may well cast them down into the state they most abhor.
Bavlar Kithis is a dangerous land to travel. Beastmen abound in the wilds and more dangerous creatures roam the lands as well. Demons and fell creatures, as well as the Undead, are known to travel freely in Bavlar Kithis. And even more dangerous are the Dark Elves themselves. Those who travel away from the dwellings of their own kind are inevitably prepared for a confrontation, for their own sport and protection (Dark Elves are universally abhorred, even amongst their own). Visiting the cities of Bavlar Kithis is an even more dangerous task then wandering the wilds. Those who do not carry the mark (and protection of) one of the Dark Elven clans are considered fair game for any and all sport. In addition, the dark and fell creatures abound in the dark metropolis', and they seldom are stopped from doing as they please. Many of the cities have traps (both magical and mundane) scattered randomly within them, to catch the helpless and the unwary (even the Dark Elves have been known to fall victem to these traps, victims of the power struggles and perversity of their kin).
Erathior is the remains of the old Principality of Seriathior, from the days when the elven peoples where united. The ruler of Seriathior still takes the title of Erator Rexis, Emperor of the Elven People, the old title of the Elven Emporers. This does little to please the sundered Bavlar-Kithians, and they still make the ocasional assassination attempt on the emporer. Seriathior is a rich and fertile land, and like most elven lands, is richly wooded. However, at many of the manses of the nobility, the plants have been altered, as was the custom of the northern kingdom. The Seriathian Elves never took this practice much to heart, and as a result, most of the plant life is basically unaltered, although it does flourish despite natural conditions.
Erathior's capitol is at Tir-an-on, in the heart of the kingdom. From there, the emporers rule extends out across his territories, and many of the human territories as well.
The Wild tribes that are scattered across the land, proclaiming allegiance to neither Erathior nor Bavlar-Kithis are the result of the many wars that have rocked the Sundered Peoples. During the Kinslayer wars ( and the orcgate wars before them ), many smaller settlements were forgotten or went their seperate ways (mostly to foolow a path much more stringent than either of the two major ways). The majority of the wild tribes of the northern continent come from these days.
The Wild Tribes of the Seriathian continent are mostly the descendents of those elves who did not pull back to the new borders following the policy of allowing human settlement. Some few of them are groups that broke free of Erathiors increasingly arrogant policies.
