The Beastmen of Seriathior |
The savage beastman races number 4: Goblins, Hobgoblins, Bugbears, and Ogres (Beastmen Giants). They are fierce warriors who contend with the Orcs, Elves, Dwarves and Men for control of Erathior. All of the beastmen sprang from a common stock, which has divided into their distinctive racial types. Their evolution was heightened by the powers unleashed by the Chaos Wars (the newly arrived Elves versus the Elder Races). The Goblins and Hobgoblins are closely related, goblins have given birth to Hobgoblin children and vice versa. The Bugbears are not so closely related and seem to have come from areas too dangerous for any but the largest and strongest to have survived. All three breeds have, occasionally, produced Ogres, but mostly those Beastmen come from their own interbreeding. Of the Beastmen, only the Goblins and Hobgoblins are capable of interbreeding.
Beastmen society tends to be primitive nomadic hunting/gathering or herding with some farming. They do not form cities, though many cities have a Beastman underclass. The Erathior word for beastman means "clever animal" - much like the human word Chimpanzee, and the Erathians have never treated the Beastmen well. The beastmen hold a high level of enemity for the Elves, though the reserve their hatred for the Orcs. Some human societies accept Beastmen and some regard them as monsters, little more than the Orcs.
