This model was built out-of-the-box mainly, for the exception of an F-16 ejection seat, and a F-18 instrument panel. The flight deck is scratch built using Evergreen and Plastruct styrene components and computer generated decals.

Gerry Anderson's UFO - "Sky-1"

Imai's 1/72th Scale (Aprox)

In the year 1980, a secret military organization named SHADO (Supreme Headquarters Alien Defence Organisation) becomes operational. Its purpose is to defend the Earth from Aliens who've been coming to Earth and kidnapping humans. It is believed that these Aliens are a dying race, and are transplanting human body parts to extend their own lifespans. Incoming UFO's are initially detected by an Earth orbiting satellite named SID (Space Intruder Detector). An initial interception attempt is made in space with three Interceptor craft launched from Moonbase. A second attempt is made in the Earth's atmosphere with a fighter plane “Sky 1” launched from Skydiver. Sky 1 is a very capable jet fighter craft for destroying UFO's in the Earth's atmosphere or performing aerial reconnaissance. Has a single seat, and is piloted by the Skydiver captain. It is armed with missiles, which are located underneath each wing.

Since this was a model that was designed also as a toy, several modifications had to be made, specially in the underbelly area, those included additional fairings, panels and a camera pod.  Model was finish with Tamiya for aircraft AS-22 (Dark Earth - RAF) and the "wet" look was created by applying several streaks of clear gloss lacquer with a round brush.

As my favorite method to simulating water, I again used acrylic resin, colored with green and blue dyes. Smoke from engines was simulated with a couple of white cotton balls. Subtle weathering was applied with a wash of acrylic burnt umber. Since this model contains a limited amount of parts the construction time was just about 10 hours.
