CHAPTER 6
Dillan came home to an empty house that night. Her mom was still at work. And her father was away for the weekend at Burning Man. She noticed that her message light on her phone was blinking; she pressed play. "Hey Dillan, its AJ. Call me on my cell when you get this message. I'm going to New York next week, so I need to talk to you before I leave on Monday. Its important."

Dillan called him right back. "Hey sweetie, its me."

"Hey babe. Hold on a second okay?"  The Boys were over at AJ's practicing for their upcoming tour. He walked into his kitchen. "Alright, I'm here for ya babe."

"So what's so important," Dillan asks almost scared, but excited.

"I miss you so much."

"I miss you too."

"I wish you were here or I was there."

"Yea I feel the same way. Was that the important thing?"

AJ pulls a glass out of the cupboard and pours himself some Jack Daniel's from the half empty bottle. "No, are you needing to go somewhere soon?"

"Well, no. Its just making me nervous that you had to say it was important and yet you are just playing it cool."

"Alright, I'll get to the point," he says as he pours himself another glass. "We're going on tour and I want you to come. For however long you are able to take off of work. I want you here, by my side, day and night."

"You want me to come?" Dillan almost screams from his offer. "Me?"

"Don't sound so surprised, princess. I just want you to be with me. Being on the road is very lonely. I miss you now and if I'm on tour for months and months, I'll go crazy if I don't see you. So will you come with us?"

"Of course! Yes!"

"Good. You don't know how happy this makes me." He takes the last gulp out of the bottle and tosses it in the trash. It hits with a crashing sound.

"What was that," Dillan asked very seriously.

"What?"

"That crash. It sounded like a bottle broke."

"Oh yea, I threw a bottle in the garbage and it broke."

"Oh..."

"Don't worry, baby. I'm okay."

Lots of voices come in through the phone. All of them are making kissing noises, and cooing at each other. The Backstreet Boys ladies and gentlemen. "Alright, alright," AJ yells at the guys. "I think I better get back to practice babe."

"AJ," Dillan says with a slight sound of irritation.

"Yea?"

Dillan hesitated. "Nevermind."

"What? Something on your mind, Dill?"

"No, no. No, its nothing. You go. Talk to you later."

Dillan wanted to talk to AJ about his drinking. She wanted to tell him how much it hurt her to know that he's doing so much harm to his body. But she wimped out. She couldn't stand up to him and she knew that she'd have to do it sometime.
