| Prettyman was born in Sussex CO, DE but he ended up in Blount CO, TN On 26 Sep 1799 he was elected ensign for the Blount CO Militia heenlisted in the War of 1812, entering as a Private in Captain Matthew Cowan's CO , 3rd regiment. He was enlisted for 13 months. Prettyman was discharged 22 Feb 1815 The Jones Family originallly lived on Indian land until 1798 when the Hawkins line was surveyed and drawn , this line was done to establish the boundary between Tenessee and the Cherokees. White people living on Indian land were then forced to relocate. A favorite story of mine is about Prettyman and his brother Zachariah and a friend stealing two horses from Granny Maw, widow ot the Cherokee indian Chief , Hanging Maw and one horse was stolen from Cherokee Deer Biter. So I guess you can say we had a horse thief in the family. My stories about the Jones Family have come down from my Great Aunt Nora Jones Steele and a cousin Mitch Jones. Mitch has done quite a bit of research on our Jones line and has always been willing to share and help the rest of us. Thanks Mitch. I am anxiously awaiting for your Jones book to be published. |
