Byrd was a hard worker and was one of the richest land owners in Putnam CO, TN during his lifetime. He did it all without slaves. He was on the side of the North. He also believed in education for his children. He was a devout Methodist. Byrd died on 25 Apr 1864 from Smallpox. He is buried in the Bird S. Cemetery, Putnam CO, TN. Hannah continued to farm after Byrd died. She died 17 Jul 1885 and is buried in the same cemetery.
