Hexagonal Patchwork
For each complete patch you will need: 2 different 50x50cm pieces of co-ordinating materials, 1 piece of backing material 60x60cm in a neutral colour and 1 piece 60x60cm in a colour that will go with both pieces of material, christmas or birthday cards (approx. 7), strong needle, the templates on the printout page, 60x60cm piece of 1cm thick wadding.

Cut out just the hexagonals from the printed page. The large one is used to cut the material. For 3 rows, cut 13 from one of the pieces of material and 6 from the other.
Using the smaller hexagonal, trace onto each card as many as will fit, then cut out. You will need 19.

Next tack each piece of material onto a cardboard hexagonal, see diagram 3
With the wrong sides facing you sew the patches together using an over stitch, along the edges, triple sewing on each corner. The middle one is one of the 13 of the same colour. The next row is the 6 of the other colour, then the last 12 of the first colour. Diagrams 4 & 5.
When all the patches are joined together, remove the tacking and cardboard and iron all the original folds flat. Diagram 6 below:

Finally pin the patchwork onto the coloured piece of material, making sure it is centred, then blind sew all around the edges. Pin this to the wadding and neutral material, wadding in the middle. Quilt around each hexagon remove pins and the patch is complete. Use it on a cushion cover or make more and join them together to make a quilt.
