Alumwell Gala November 2003 _________________________________________________ Milton Keynes 13th & 14th September 2003 Janine Griffiths = 1st in figures Eleanor Sloane = 3rd in free _________________________________________________ NEWTON AYCLIFFE Interclub June 14th/15th 2003 *************************************************************************************************** Elementary Ladies Free Skating Championships June 2003 Deeside RSC was proud to send two of our skaters to this event, which was held at the Black Lion Leisure Centre in Gillingham: Eleanor Sloane (12) and Bethany Crellin (11) The girls had to skate two programs, a 2 minute short and a 3 minute long. The standard from all the skaters this year was very good even though most skaters had competed at other national events that very weekend, the weekend before at Derby and/or Internationals. Both girls skated very well in the short programs and both ended up with top group placements for the long program. In the long program section Bethany skated first of our girls and had an excellent skate despite a couple of mistakes. Eleanor skated second and although some of her elements weren't her best she really fought to sell the program to the very end and stayed focused throughout.. Eleanor's performance was enough to get het 3rd place overall in the freeskating section. Bethany finished up a respectable 6th on last year's13th. Another skater from North Wales, Jahna Burke of Rhyl Rollers skated very well and came 4th in the free section, giving Wales Three of the final top Six free Skaters. Well Done to all of you. ******************************************************************************************** NOVICE & PRELIM COMPETITIONS May/June 2003 This was Deeside skaters first competition of year. originally there were four skaters entered, two for each event. Unfortunately after the move of the event Jade Power could not enter. April Collard age 11 entered the figure and free section of the novice event, the first figure was very disappointing for April with marks from 4.7 - 5.8 putting her around 14th place, by the second figure April had settled a little more and managed to get marks of 6.8 - 7.0's moving her up to take fourth place overall. April again took a top placing in the set elements section. The free section didn't go quite as planned but still April finished up a respectable 9th overall. In the Prelim section, Eleanor Sloane, age 12 and Bethany Crellin, age 11 were both entered in the free event. Bethany skated first of the two in set elements and skated brilliantly. Eleanor skated not long after and again another great skate. Both Bethany and Eleanor got top placings in the elements putting them in the final group for the free program. Bethany's free program wasn't as good as she would like it to have been but even so she still managed to finish in the top 10 in comparison with last year's 22nd. Eleanor's free program went really well with just one mistake on the Double Loop combination. This was enough for Eleanor to take 3rd place in the Free skating section. Well Done to all the Deeside girls who went to derby. Even though there were a couple of disappointments along the way all three girls entered still finished in the top ten of their standards. A big thank you to the skaters and the parents who have all worked so hard for the girls to get where they are today. Carys |
