Caz

Hi, my name is Carys. I'm the head coach at Deeside RSC.
I started skating when I was 6 years old, at RHYL ROLLERS. I reached bronze standard in figures, free and dance then left for some time. I came back as a mature skater and loved it as much, if not more than the first time round but when I fell pregnant with my son, Rhys-Morgan in 2000 I could no longer skate. I had recently moved to Connahs Quay where there was no roller skating clubs, so I decided to open one myself. It was difficult as the club was to be started from scratch. There were no current skaters and no ex-skaters for newcomers to look upto. In fact everything they learnt they had never even seen done. Thats why I'm so proud to see them out out competitions, especially when they get medals.

What happens at the club?

Most people come in for public session and see the Squad skaters practicing jumps, dances and spins etc.... thats when they decide they want to join classes. Once you've come to classes often enough to pass grade one, which for most people is 4 - 6 sessions. You will receive your grade One badge and be given the opportunity of becoming a club member.

Club Members are allowed to participate in any of our home / club activites. You see we don't just skate as a club, we play too. lol. We do such things as Treasure Hunts, Funday Sundays, trips out and parties. Anyway, you may then work on passing more of your grades and eventually, if you wish, become a Squad member.Squad is the name we use for those who represent Deeside at National and interclub events.
