haoran is a transfer student from Hongkong. He comes to Japan in order to capture all the Clow Cards before they cause disaster to the world. Bad luck for him, as there is another person who also collects the Cards, who turns out to be Sakura. Shaoran considers Sakura as his rival at the beginning of the story. But as the story goes on, their relationship gets better and better that Shaoran also gathers more feeling toward Sakura.

In manga, Shaoran comes to Japan and lives all aone by himself. He does his own cooking , cleaning, sewing, etc. However, in anime, Shaoran comes to Japan with his loyal servant, Wei, and later on with his cousin, Meilin. Shaoran is said to be the one with the strongest magic power in his family which is consisted of his mother and four older sisters.
