I was known as Goresplash and played on a number of different servers, two of my favourites being SoS clan server and XTC server #2.

Goresplash's CS Tips:
(some of these only truly apply to larger games of 4+ a side. Not in order of importance)

1. Always dive into cover to reload, never in the open.

2. If you're in a heavy firefight and your main weapon runs out of ammo, get your pistol out pronto and when that runs out stab your opponent.

3. Listen, listen and listen. I cannot overemphasize the importance of this. 90% of the time, this is the difference between the good and the BEST players. I always used headphones and i'd recommend it to anyone else. Turn em up nice and high!

4. Be quick from the start. Get there first to gain a strong position from which to snipe or surprise your enemy. Be careful, however, that you do not get too far away from your team. (see next point)

5. You're in a team so support your team-mates when you can, try not to run off alone unless you have a "plan". (a problem I used have quite often) You'll be glad of their support plenty of times.

6. When up against an accursed AWP face to face, try to go around and in from behind. If this isn't an option, strafe and move QUICKLY. Never in a straight line towards him and never try to out snipe him unless YOU have one!

7. Gain skill with pistols. They can be invaluable (see point 2.).

8. Specialise. Pick a weapon you enjoy and/or find accurate and improve with it. Such as the M4A1 Colt (i HIGHLY recommend this gun)

9. Don't run the same way on a map too often. Remember you're up against REAL intelligence, not AI...well most of the time, heh.

10. If you're a CT, always buy a defusal kit if you can. They cost very little and vastly increase bomb defusal speed.

11. Use flashbangs!

12. When using flashbangs, be aware of your team-mates' positions and do not throw where there's a chance you could blind your team. A good tip for FBs is to throw around a corner, wait until you hear it go off and then make your move. Don't throw into large fights just to take some kills for yourself!

13. Use grenades! They can be devastating when used correctly, with one 'nade inflicting 70+ damage through armour and capable killing in one if he isn't wearing any. Again, be careful with these and try not to throw them where you could injure your team-mates.

14. Obvious yet all too often forgotten, aim for the head. If you find it difficult at first, try strafing upwards towards his head if your aim is too low. In case you didnt know, neck and shoulder shots are also more damaging than usual.

15. Learn the maps. It will improve your speed and enable you to discover the best places to wait and/or ambush the enemy.

16. "Camping" is clearly part of this game. This ain't no Quake! pah! =)
There's a definate validity to waiting for an enemy. It's called ambush! HOWEVER, on cs maps for example (hostage rescue) waiting at your start point (cts) is not acceptable, same goes for Ts on bombing missions. In fact waiting at start points is only really acceptable if you're a ct, your start point is a bomb site and your team is splitting up to defend them all. Even then it's something that's likely to be frowned upon.

17. Keep an eye out for any stray appendages (ie feet / elbows / legs). If you see some, blow them off.

18. If you hear someone running just around the corner and you suspect they'll be rounding it soon, don't stand in their path. I wouldnt even recommend waiting until they run past unless you have a very good hiding spot; eg. in pitch black shadow. My method for this was to run around to meet them firing. Start firing before you clear the corner and adjust your aim if necessary when they come into sight. This is an excellent tactic and will almost always catch them by surprise.

19. Surprise. This may seem like another obvious point, but for those who are coming from games like quake and unreal tournament, if it comes into play it's usually just through luck. In CS however, if you can master the element of surprise you'll be a formidable opponent, providing you can aim! =)
The vast majority of the time LISTENING will be the deciding factor in whether you are the surpriser or the surprisee! 1
