
When they were not at the Night Owl, out playing dances and shows around Ontario's schools and clubs, they bought in bands from the surrounding area, even as far away as Montreal, Calgary, and the East Coast, to play in their absences from Toronto. Some of the better known bands played at the Night Owl and it became a challenge for the music lovers just to get in the place.
Dee, originally from England, came to Canada in the early 60's after playing at the Star Club in Hamburg with Johnny Neal and the Starliners. They also shared the bill with the Beatles, and Gerry and the Pacemakers. Then a tour around France for a few months playing US Bases in various cities.
In Canada, he formed a trio, consisting of Terry Watkinson (organ), and Len Lytwyn (drums). They really decided to get together and form Dee and the Yeomen while they were in the recording studio, cutting "Say Baby" b/w "You Should Know It", and then went on, to make the "Night Owl" their home base in Toronto.
Making frequent TV appearances and getting lots of chart action, they developed quite a following, with fan clubs springing up Canada, USA, and reportedly Peru, and Australia.
The Toronto newspapers were also approving of the band, with a mention in one of them virtually every week of the progress the band was making.
