Dee & the Yeomen

Based at the "Night Owl" Coffee House in Toronto's Yorkville area in the early 60's, Dee and the Yeomen played for the downtown evening crowds and drew in loyal fans night after night.

When they were not at the Night Owl, out playing dances and shows around Ontario's schools and clubs, they bought in bands from the surrounding area, even as far away as Montreal, Calgary, and the East Coast, to play in their absences from Toronto. Some of the better known bands played at the Night Owl and it became a challenge for the music lovers just to get in the place.

Dee, originally from England, came to Canada in the early 60's after playing at the Star Club in Hamburg with Johnny Neal and the Starliners. They also shared the bill with the Beatles, and Gerry and the Pacemakers. Then a tour around France for a few months playing US Bases in various cities.
In Canada, he formed a trio, consisting of Terry Watkinson (organ), and Len Lytwyn (drums). They really decided to get together and form Dee and the Yeomen while they were in the recording studio, cutting "Say Baby" b/w "You Should Know It", and then went on, to make the "Night Owl" their home base in Toronto.

Making frequent TV appearances and getting lots of chart action, they developed quite a following, with fan clubs springing up Canada, USA, and reportedly Peru, and Australia.

The Toronto newspapers were also approving of the band, with a mention in one of them virtually every week of the progress the band was making.

During their recording period they released the following singles, most of which made the charts:-

"SAY BABY" b/w "YOU SHOULD KNOW IT"

"TAKE THE FIRST TRAIN HOME" b/w "WHY WHY WHY"

"A LOVE LIKE MINE" b/w "BEGONE BEGONE"

"BABY IT'S ALL WORTHWHILE" b/w "BROKEN HEARTED MELODY"

"IN A MINUTE OR TWO" b/w "AFRAID OF LOVE"

"SOMEDAY YOU'LL NEED SOMEONE" b/w "SEND SOME FLOWERS TO JULIE"
{Band renamed "Dee and the Quotum"}

"THIS WAS MEANT TO BE" b/w "THE GREATEST STORY EVER TOLD"
{Band renamed "Daybreak"}

---Each title was recorded as a 45 single---
