H.E.A.L.S. of North Georgia
The liver is one of the most important organs in our body. It filters waste, manufactures substances needed for digestion, and stores carbohydrates and vitamins. We can't live without it. Usually, we can tell when something is wrong with other organs in our body because we feel pain or have other symptoms. Yet the liver suffers silently, often with no indication that anything is wrong, even when there is permanent damage occuring.
Hepatitis C has become an epidemic in our country and in our area. Through education and support in reference to all forms of hepatitis and other liver ailments, HEALS hopes to stem the growing tide of infection and fear, and prevent the further spread of liver disease.
Hepatitis Education, Awareness, and Liver Support
Our goal at HEALS is to expand awareness about liver health through educational programs, literature, public speaking and HCV Testing Events. Young people, veterans, minorities, and prison populations are some of the groups we try to target. By educating the public, we hope to aid in the prevention of hepatitis in all its forms. We encourage hepatitis testing for high risk individuals. For those already diagnosed, our goal is support, mentoring programs, and written resources. We strive to spread information to emphasize the importance of dealing with this neglected health issue.
