In celebration
of 150 years of Indian Railways (1853-2003) a two day Anglo-Indian Railway
Convention was held in Chennai in January 2003, under the banner of the
National Forum of Anglo-Indian Associations. The Convention focused on the contribution of the Anglo-Indian Community to the Indian Railways and included a photographic exhibition commemorating Anglo Indian railway heroes and significant events. Also as part of this event a seminar examined how portrayals and stereotypes featured in books and films such as Bhowani Junction and Julie have affected the Anglo-Indian identity in India. The two day program included an exhibition hockey match, a food fair consisting of typical Anglo-Indian cuisine, and the release of a special souvenir booklet highlighting the history of the Indian Railways. The souvenir while showcasing several railway colonies, highlighted KcCluskiegunj Railway Station and promoted Jharkhand as a heritage station. |
