President's
Message Dear Members
The
end of another year is imminent. 2002 appears to have flown by all too fast.
In retrospect, however, it has been a good year and I hope you too feel the
same when you look back on the past eleven months.
By the time you receive this Newsletter, the best time of the year will be
upon us; not winter and its dreariness, but Christmas and its warmth - the
warmth of friendship, family and love.
This year, we are bringing in the Spirit of Christmas early. Our annual potluck
Christmas Sing-along is being held on Saturday November 30th in Richmond.
As I sit writing this message in November, I can only hope that members turn
out in good numbers, particularly since carolling is such a wonderful part
of the Christmas tradition.
Our faithful bunch of volunteers have unhesitatingly rolled up their sleeves
to ensure the success of all events planned by the AIRC. When members' responses
appear too low to make an event viable, rather than cancel it, our volunteers
go to the "highways and byways" to bring in guests. I am reminded
of the biblical wedding feast. However, it would be a great pity if apathy
sets in among our members, as we depend on you all to support these functions
with enthusiasm and zest.
Plans are well underway for the festivities to bring in 2003. Details of the
New Year's Eve dinner dance are in this Newsletter, and I encourage everyone
to be part of our celebrations- not only by joining us on the 31st, but also
by pitching in with ticket sales. We REALLY need you!
During the Christmas Season, I will drink to the health and happiness of each
one of you-but won't get too inebriated in the process, as the old lady will,
no doubt, monitor my intake of "Christmas spirit"! All of us on
the Committee wish you a joyous Christmas, and we'll include you all in our
prayers for a healthy and happy New Year.
Clarence
