| Greetings! Yeah, I know I haven't updated this site in months and months - sorry about that! Most of you know I'm incredibly busy all the time, and well, poor Planet Deedums got deserted for a while. Breaking news, though - I do have some extra time now, because as of yesterday I no longer work at Multisorb. Yeah, they canned my ass. My last day was supposed to be August 12th, but according to my boss it was "obvious" I "didn't want to be there" so they cut me loose. (And speaking of cutting loose, immediately after being fired, I went and got all my hair cut off. Look out, kids, she's on fire)! The part about me not wanting to be there was certainly true, I'll give them that. And my attitude did sort of suck. Money-wise it blows, but I'm beginning to think I need the downtime and rest more than the money anyway. School starts August 29th, so I've got a whole month to sort myself out beforehand. I'm still working at Starbucks, of course, but my schedule is not nearly as packed full as it was before now. For those of you who don't know, I'm going back to school (Buffalo State) full-time to work on my B.F.A. in Communication Design. What's Communication Design? Well, really it's just a fancy term for Graphic Design. What I essentially hope to do with it is work in the entertainment/media advertising biz. Maybe my first project will be designing Big Abbott's first CD cover, LOL! (Big Abbott, for those of you out of the loop, is the band I've been singing with for a few months - look for us at an open mic near you this fall)! Last week I went to Chicago for Lollapalooza and had a GREAT time. So much so that I've decided I'm moving back there when I'm done with school. I knew I missed it there, but God, actually going back and being there for a couple of days just made my heart ache for it. I just feel so incredibly connected and comfortable, I just feel like it's where I'm meant to be.. While I was there I hung out with some old friends, made some cool new ones, and saw some awesome performances at the show. Cake (as most of you know, one of my favorite bands ever) was excellent! The only downside to music festivals like that is the short sets. The last time I saw Cake was at the Twisted Christmas concert about 7 or 8 years ago, so in all my years of Cake fanhood, I've only seen them play for collectively two hours. Come on you guys - go on tour already - at least do some dates out this way!!!! But anyway, they managed to pack in a great set in the short amount of time - nice variety of stuff from all five albums, a very satisfying hour. I wandered over to another stage to watch Billy Idol (old man's still got it) for a while, then firmly planted myself about five rows back from the stage where Primus was set to play. Enduring a short but heavy rainstorm (which was kind of funny considering Primus had two giant inflatable rubber ducks on stage), Les and Company busted out with a freaking incredible hour-long set that had everyone going nuts. I was satisfied! Wet, dirty, exhausted, and with aching feet, but totally happy. I could have gone home then and felt like I'd gotten my money's worth! But I did get to see Liz Phair, Kaiser Chiefs, Brian Jonestown Massacre, Weezer, Digable Planets, G. Love & Special Sauce, The Killers, Spoon, and The Arcade Fire, but I ignored the Pixies. Sorry, Pixies fans - just never dug them! Anyway, that's just about it for now. I do have a relatively new blog on blogspot.com, which you can check out here. I update that a hell of a lot more than I do this site, so be sure to check it out from time to time. And of course if you're not signed up to receive updates for Planet Deedums, go ahead and sign up and never miss any of the action! Thanks for stopping by - enjoy the rest of the summer! Love, Deedee |
