Death bangs on the door,
it rattles in the locks.
My poor granny dear
lies restless while it knocks.
Her name it whispers
into the dying light,
but her will she doth keep
late into the night.
I admire her beauty,
though her face is growing pale.
Then ringing in the village square
is the sounding of her wail.
