POP BOTTLE SANTA
Will add another pic as soon as I get his toy bag made with the list spilling out.
These directions are very generic.
You can adjust them for any size plastic pop bottle.
Materials:
1 - 20 oz. plastic pop bottle
Red fabric
Red or White felt
1 plastic Santa head
Quilt batting
Polyfil, black acrylic paint & brush
Glue gun & stix
Needle & thread, black ribbon or black felt
Rice, beans, sand ect....to add weight to the bottle
Small toys, piece of paper & gold cording
Thin plywood & saw to cut it
Directions:
Wrap the bottle with the batting up to the neck.
Use glue or tape to hold it in place.
Wrap fabric around bottle,
cut it 1" wider & 1" taller than the bottle.
With wrong sides together
sew the 2 short sides together
using a 1/2" seam allowance.
It should look like a tube now.
Sew a gathering stitch around 1 end of the tube.
Pull tight & tie off.
Turn fabric right side out & slip it
on the bottle with the gathered
end at the bottom of the bottle.
Now sew a gathering stitch around the
top of the fabric, pull tight & tie off.
Cut arms from the same fabric, approx. 4" wide & 6" long.
Repeat the sewing process as for the body.
Stuff lightly with polyfill.
Cut batting to fit around each open
end of the arm & glue it on.
Cut 4 small mittens from red or white felt.
Place a small bit of polyfil between 2 mittens
& glue around the edges.
Glue a mitten into the end of each arm.
Set arms aside for now.
Push head onto neck of bottle.
Cut batting to go around the
neck of the bottle for a collar.
Approx. 2" wide & long enough to
meet in the middle, in the front.
Glue in place.
Cut a piece of batting approx. 1/2" wide & 4" long.
Glue down the front of the body.
*NOTE* Start gluing at the top &
stop when it is at the "waist" area.
You may need to trim a bit of the batting off.
Glue arms to each side just below the collar.
Wrap ribbon or felt around waist for a belt.
Glue in place.
Glue a small square of gold felt
or ribbon on for a belt buckle.
From the thin plywood cut a connected UU
shape for the boots.
Paint black & glue to the bottom of the bottle.
Use a fine point sharpie & make
a line from just below the center
of the belt to the boots.
This is to define the legs.
Remove the head, fill with rice,
beans or sand & replace head.
To make the toy bag cut fabric
as for body but use pinking shears.
Approx. size is 10" long by 8"tall.
Repeat the sewing process as for the body.
Turn right side out, stuff bag almost full with polyfil.
Use the gold cording to tie it almost closed.
Glue small toys onto the top of the batting.
Cut a piece of paper approx. 1" wide by 4-5" long.
Write a list of names,
curl the paper around a pencil,
uncurl & glue to the top of the bag on 1 side.
Be sure to make a check mark by a few names too.
