Beaded Pens

Materials:

Cheap package of BIC pens ( Walmart or Dollar Store about 10 for $1.00)
Double sided sticky tape in a sheet (called Peel n Stick by Therm o Web)
Scraps of marbled papers, tissue paper, wrapping paper,
colored foils etc. (the paper needs to be thin to work the best.)
I used "Tiny Marbles" from Michaels

*NOTE* If you use pens with colored barrels you can omit wrapping in paper if you wish. Just wrap in the sticky tape & roll in the beads!!!

Directions:

Remove the ink filler from the pen and set it aside.
Cut a piece of double sticky tape the length of the barrel
of the pen and wide enough to go all the way around the pen,
with a little bit of overlap.
Make a template with a piece of printer paper
and just trace around that if you are going to make alot of pens.
Cut a piece of decorative paper the same size as the double sticky tape,
and apply it to the sticky side of the tape after you peel off the backing.
Peel off the other paper backing on the sticky tape
and lay it down on a flat surface with the side your decorative
paper is on facing down and the sticky side facing up.
Lay the pen down on top of the sticky tape,
lining up the end of the pen with the end of the tape,
so they are even. Then roll the pen onto the tape,
or the tape onto the pen, which ever is easier.
Cut another piece of double sticky tape the same size as the first one you cut.
Peel off the paper backing on one side and again lay
it down on a flat surface with the sticky side facing up.
Lay the pen down on top of it,
lining up the end of the pen with the end of the tape,
so they are even. Then roll the pen onto the tape,
or the tape onto the pen, which ever is easier.
The other paper backing on the sticky tape may come off.
That's OK, because it will have to be removed anyway.
If it doesn't come off peel off the backing now.
Pour the beads in a shallow box top
or cookie sheet or something similiar.
Place the pen with the double sticky tape exposed in the beads,
and roll it back and forth until the pen in completely covered.
Take the pen out of the box top and roll it
back and forth between the palms of your hands,
to make sure the beads are stuck on to the pen good
. I let my pens set for 5-7 days & haven't had to seal them
. Insert the pen back into the case & you are ready to write!!!!

If you think the pens need sealing
here is what I could find on how to do it & what to use.
A big jar filled with water based sealer for acrylic paints.
A paper clip unfolded so you have a hanger on both ends.
Push the largest end of the paper clip into the end of the pen so it fits tightly.
Dip the pen in the jar.
Let the extra drip off, and then leaving it on the clip,
hang it using the other end of the paperclip as a hanger, to dry overnight.
The next day replace the ink filler and you have a beautiful beaded pen.
