Vampires, Human Servants and Triumvirates

"He has taken the first step to making you a human servant. I don't mean one of those pathetic half-creatures
that have a few bites and do our bidding. I mean a permanent human servant, one that will never be bitten,
never be hurt. One that will age almost as slowly as we do. He has shared with you what we consider a
great gift to be given only to people who have proven themselves invaluable. You are now immune to his
glance, his voice, his mind. You will serve him out of willingness, nothing more. As an animator you
had partial immunity to our gaze. Now you have almost complete immunity."

A Human Servant is a person who is bound to a Master Vampire by "Marks". Masters with a Human Servant
gain power from the union. Not only in the form of an ally, but metaphysical power. Not all Master Vampires
can create a Human Servant, but those who are able to can only have one.

If the Human Servant or the Master Vamp is killed, it is possible that action will kill both. However,
the stronger the beings involved the more likely they will be to withstand the psychic separation. For
example when Anita killed Alejandro after the Forth Mark, she should have died, in fact her heart stopped.
However, Edward performed CPR on her until the paramedics arrived, thus saving her life. When the Vampire
Council Member Mr. Oliver was killed, Karl Inger his Human Servant died along with him; and Master of
the City Colin died when Anita killed Nikki his Human Servant.

The Human Servant out of affection or necessity becomes a protector of and alternative source of nourishment
for their Master. Plusses for the Human Servant include immunity to the Master's eyes; increased strength,
stamina, ability to heal, resistance to injury, and immunity to disease and poison. This makes them harder
to kill which works for both parties. The Fourth Mark completes the process.

Masters who have to share blood with their human servant in order to feed are considered weak. A strong
vampire can do it with touch alone. If the servant touches the master too long or forcefully, the servant's
skin will deaden for the night. In public when a Vampire's companion places their hand on the pulse of
the Vampire's wrist, it declares that they are his human servant or lover.

Since Necromancers have an affinity for the dead in all their manifestations they make powerful Human
Servants. Necromancers can raise the dead like Animators, however, they have greater control over the
dead. As Human Servants Vampire tricks would no longer work on Necromancers. Since Anita is a Necromancer,
she has free will within the relationship (Lunatic Cafe). Other humans such as Nikki must obey their
Masters (Blue Moon). Voodoo is the practice of true Necromancy, but Anita like most Necromancers is not
into Voodoo.

The Master Vampire must give four invisible Marks to complete the process of creating a Human Servant.
Each mark binds the two closer. Eventually the Human Servant gains the same powers of the Master without
giving up the daylight. The 2 are linked telepathically. Until the 4th Mark the Human Servant can be
marked by more then one Vamp (Circus of the Damned and Cerulean sins). A person does not need all four
marks to be considered a Human Servant.

The human may not even recognize they have this Mark As it is more of a psychic connection then anything
else. This makes the human immune to the Vampire's tricks, but not necessarily to all Vampires as seems
to be the case with necromancers. The human becomes harder to hurt.

"I shared my life force with you."

Two points of flame the color of the vampire's eyes, float before the human, sometime they pursue them.
The flames merge into the eyes, causing them to glow briefly with the flame's color and briefly giving
that hue to everything the human sees; then they vanish. After the Second Mark the Master Vampire can
invade the dreams of the human. He can also draw energy from his Human Servant from a distance, sustaining
himself without drinking blood. The Servant will eat much more than normal when energy is being siphoned
off, with out a weight gain. (This is a bad thing?) The Vampire can taste the food that his Servant eats.

"Anita." Jean-Claude's velvet voice whispered. "Anita." Something glimmered, blue fire. Two points
of blue flame, hung on the wind. Eyes - were those Jean-Claude's eyes? The blue flames began to float
downward. The wind didn't touch them. The blue flames came lower and lower, and suddenly I didn't want
it to touch me, just as suddenly I knew that that was what it was going to do. Something told me that
would be a very bad thing.
There was one other sound, Jean-Claude's voice in my head. "Forgive
me." The blue lights were suddenly in front of my face. I flattened myself against a wall, hitting at
the fire. My hands passed through the burning. The fire melted through my hands like they weren't there,
and into my eyes. The world was blue glass, silent, nothing, blue ice. A whisper: "Run, run."

The vampire drinks the blood of the human. This action is accompanied by a scent related to the Vampire
or the focus, a scent is detected. Sometimes the sent is flowers as it was for Alejandro; Jean-Claude's
perfume; or earthy, woodsy scents for Richard when he acted as a focus for Jean-Claude. This strengthens
the link between Vamp and human, allowing them communicate mind to mind.

Jean-Claude's midnight eyes filled with fire. He swept my hair to one side and said, "Open for me,
ma petite, open for us both." I did, sweeping my mind open, dropping every guard I'd ever had. I fell
forward, impossibly forward, down a long, black tunnel towards a burning blue fire. Pain cut the darkness
like a white knife, and I heard myself gasp. I felt Jean-Claude's fangs sink into me, his mouth sealing
over my flesh sucking me, drinking me

The vampire opens a blood supply, usually in the chest, and the human servant drinks from it. The Fourth
Mark completes the process, after this the Human Servant is as immortal as the Vampire. Damian tells
Anita that she might retain her humanity while gaining all of Jean-Claude's powers. It is a chance Anita
is not willing to take, since some Human Servants are completely subservient to their Masters. Some even
hate their Vampire.

Guilty Pleasures

Richard took the First and Second Marks to assist him in his confrontation with Marcus. The marks between
a Master and an Alpha Lycanthrope are different from those given to a human servant. Jean-Claude explains
to Anita in The Killing Dance:

"The joining of master and animal is not the same as between master and servant. It is not quite as
intimate. I will not be able to taste food through Richard, as I could through you. Richard is an alpha
werewolf. He is an equivalent power to mine in some ways. He will have more control over my entering
his dreams, his thoughts. He would be able to keep me out, as it were."

A triumvirate is a Master Vampire, his Human Servant, and a Lycanthrope who combine their strength in
order to create a unit that is more potent then the sum of the parts. The Vamp has to be able to create
a Human Servant and have an animal to call. If a MV has had his HS too long he can not open his energy
to accept a third and make a triumvirate.

The participants need not be the strongest of their respective groupings, but the more individual power
they have the more powerful the triumvirate will be. Being part of a triumvirate allows Jean-Claude,
Anita and Richard to share power, and increase their individual strength. Richard joined as hopes he
would have so much power it would not be necessary to fight to the death with Marcus for Ulfric. He hoped
that Marcus would back down. Jean-Claude wanted to gain enough power that no Master Vampire, short of
the Vampire Council itself, would dare challenge him. Anita signed on to help the men she loved and to
survive attacks against her.

"If we truly joined, no one could stand against us. That much power is very tempting." He looked up
suddenly, letting me see his eyes. Emotions rolled across his face. Excitement, fear, lust, and finally,
just weariness. "We could be bound together for all eternity. Bound together in a three-way struggle
for power. It is not a pleasant thought."
The Killing Dance

The three were shocked by the power joining together gave them. Anita acted as the conduit between Jean-Claude's
power, a cool rushing wind, and Richard's power, hot and electric. When she released the power she raised
the dead. Not just zombies, but also, Willie, Liv and Damian all vampires.

The participants can create holes in their auras that make them more vulnerable to attack unless the
marks are not "married." Mystical defenses will only work when they are touching each other, thus making
every one in the Triumvirate weaker. In order to energize the triumvirate, one of two focuses is needed:
a ritual or sex and then completed with blood. When Anita and Richard made love for the first time this
bound both of them closer to each other, and closer to Jean-Claude whom she was already having sex with.
The vampire had told to Richard it would but both kept it from Anita.

The aura is an individual metaphysical protection, a personal energy. When it is healthy it protects
you like a skin, when it has holes in it attacks can enter like an infection. The participants can create
holes in their auras that make them all more vulnerable to attack unless the marks are "married." Marrying
the marks involves closing the holes at the charka points where each partaker in the triumvirate is linked
to the other. Anita, Jean-Claude and Richard accomplish this on the floor of Narcissus In Chains a night
club when the three covered the holes in each other's aura.
