are made for sale or trade by any one embroiderer or company.

There are only 4 different designs (hopefully some more later),
3 in 2 sizes, the ship in 3, also a combination of all three people.
The 4 designs have all been sewn out in their larger size,
please let me know if there are problems with any of the others.
The two ladies have a few jump threads. I have managed to eliminate
them all from the gent and the ship.

The people designs have only one colour. The ship (frigate)
is divided into 3 colours, the main ship, the trim and the ocean.
To stay with blackwork tradition you can stitch all three parts out
in the one colour.
Whilst the inspiration comes from blackwork with its high contrast
between the picture and the backing fabric, a more subtle result
comes from using thread colour in similar shading but darker than
the item on which they are sewn. ie Chocolate on mid brown fabric.

Inspiration for the ladies came from Osyth Woods 1929 table runner
as depicted in "Blackwork Embroidery" by Margaret Pascoe
(pub 1986 by B T Batsford - London)
The gent was inspired by the lithograph of Sir Charles Fitzroy
as shown in "Breeches and Bustles" by Elizabeth Scandrett
(pub 1978 by Pioneer Design Studio - Sydney)
and the ship came from the label on a bottle of "Frigate" brand Rum
which is a very tasty drop.
