Sky is an Australian cattle dog, much like Mad Max's pooch in The Road Warrior. One of the problems facing Australians is the number of feral (wild) dogs that roam the country. It's hard to see in this picture, but Sky's tail has been removed in the same way domesticated dogs' tails are removed in Australia. The reason for doing this is so people can distinguish between the wild and tame dogs. When we got her, the tail had already been removed, probably in much the same way as I remove lamb tails. The other Heeler (if I'm spelling that correctly) still has his tail, because we don't have the same problem here in the States. |
