SHELTON — A woman was found dead today under piles of debris in a house where
police were investigating a missing persons report.
The body was found at
home just after noon in the 1600 block of Second Avenue. The man living there
reported his 60-year-old wife missing about 2 a.m. Investigators have obtained a
search warrant to re-enter the home, Shelton police Chief Terry Davenport
said.
“We’re treating this as a homicide so that in the event it turns out to
be, we’ve covered all of our bases,” he said.
Police have not confirmed the
deceased is the missing woman. Her husband is not a suspect, Davenport
said.
Police first searched the home about 2:30 a.m. but did not find the
body due to clutter that piled up as high as 6 feet in some places. Police found
layers of clothing, boxes and other debris, he said.
“Officers did not know
they were looking at a kitchen until they could make a faint outline of a
microwave,” Davenport said.
The husband told police that’s the way the
couple lived, Davenport said.
