Keep your house in balance or input equals output

Your living environment has a finite amount of space.

When we first inhabit these spaces, they are empty.

We then proceed to fill them with all the stuff we have accumulated at that point in our lives.

From there, we begin the centuries old, human condition known as hunting and gathering.

The question then becomes, how much is enough?

And when does enough become too much?

People often described as packrats obviously have no idea of when enough is too much.

They just keep gathering and gathering while discarding nothing.

Most of us have some packrat tendencies.

The decision to discard stuff we have gathered is just too darn easy to avoid.

So we just keep everything.

At some point, however, that finite space in which we live starts feeling smaller and smaller.

So what can we do?

You first must establish a level of balance within your environment.

Put another way, at what point is my house full?

The criteria for that determination is both personal and critical if you are to achieve a sense of balance.

If you are running out of spaces to put used belongings you have replaced with new ones, you're past full.

Having a backup copy of critical computer files is one thing, but a toaster or a shaver...forget it!

Once you decide what full is, the rest is easy.

WHEN YOU BRING IN NEW STUFF, AN EQUAL AMOUNT OF OLD STUFF MUST GO

or

INPUT EQUALS OUTPUT

I like to call the elimination of excess stuff DECRAPIFICATION.

Try it. I think you'll be surprised how good it feels.

If you give some or your old stuff to a worthy cause, all the better.

The feeling of balance in your living space, and even in your life, is a decision worth making!
