The crank shaft failed. That wasn't very fun. Over spring break, I removed it and sent it to Pittsburgh Crankshaft. They turned the crankshaft. I put new oversized bearings in and put the engine back together. I believe the problem occurred from using too light of an oil, 10w-30. I now use 30 or 40 weight. If you have a Jeep this old....
USE 40 WEIGHT OIL

March 6, 2001- My bearing clearances are, 1-.0015, 2-.002, 3-.002, 4-.0015, 5-.0015, 6-.0015. I have a feeling as if things are moving back into place.

July. 2001-I decided that a top was a good idea. Beachwood Canvas charges $2000 for a really good top. I decided to make my own. I didn't have the machines so D&S Upholstery will sew the top for me. They are located in New Centerville. Here are some of the pictures I took of the top pattern. The top is my own design. Both Susan Rice and I made it.

May 27, 2002- I tightened the front passenger side wheel. Actually Susan did and I helped her with the task.
May 28, 2002- I changed oil in the Jeep. I used one quart of SAE 40 weight and 3 quarts of SAE 3. The mileage is 19543 miles. This Jeep takes a NAPA 1010 oil filter. I changed the turn signal bulb back to the orange bulb from the clear one. I quickly had to make a substitution earlier.
June 18, 2002- I removed the gas tank from the Jeep so that I could file the uneven spout. Now the cap does not leak anymore. The new float should work out very well. I bent the rod so that it faces the opposite direction and reverses the position of the rheostat in the float. I positioned a 1 kilo-ohm potentiometer across the +12 volt and ground. The center of the 10 turn potentiometer is connected to the fuel float terminal so that it biases the float. This helps the gauge reach full scale. The voltage can then be chosen at any point along the potentiometer.
June 19, 2002-(PS Susan's Birthday) I wired two diodes into the new turn signal indicator bulb. These assure that the currents flow in the proper direction. Now the turn signal indicator blinks when the turn signal blinks and is off all other times. The only exception is when the brake pedal is pushed. Then the indicator lamp comes on.
June, 2002- I was driving in my Jeep, and it started running poorly. Susan, Hershey and I pulled off along the road. Sonny Kreger stopped beside us on his four-wheeler. He left to call my Father. Uncle Chet came with his truck, and we pulled the Jeep back home. It seemed as if the battery went bad. On further examination, I found that there was a large bulge in the side. I replaced the battery with one from Autozone.
July 4, 2002- Today the Jeep wouldn't start. We were sitting at Sheetz and John Sivec and Miranda were there. After Susan called her father on the cell phone he came after us. (This was the day we saw a milk man drop a couple crates of milk.) After Susan's Dad was pulling us with the truck, we tried to start the engine. The tires squealed in 2nd gear and the clutch burned in 3rd. We pulled the starter out and found that the washer on the bendix teeth had come loose. This stalled the starter and wouldn't allow it to disengage from the flywheel. We filed the teeth smooth again and put the washer back into place. Later it will be tack welded.
