April 22, 2000- It has been a long time since I worked on my Jeep in the garage. I was in a car accident and was stranded at school because the doctors wouldnt let me drive home. I suffered brain damage. This wasn't any fun. I puttied and painted. I had problems with the putty peeling and lifting away from the epoxy primer on the rear passenger-side inner fender. The putty is very thick and thats probably the reason it is lifting. I put anchor screws in the fender and reapplied more putty. The screws should hold the putty fast. (It didn't. Later, the putty peeled away from the fender. I used too few screws, and they were not large enough.)
May 7, 2000- I put anchor bolts in the dent in the hood. When I was brazing the separate hood sections together, the heating of the metal with the torch caused a dent. I painted the hood screws, and I gave the rear fenders a coat of primer surfacer. This up graded them from rough putty status. I also moved the frame outside so I could have more room. Its covered from the weather.
May 11, 2000- I sanded the tiger hair off the hood. Then, I cut off the hood screw tops and puttied them. I sanded the fender, pounded down the high spots, and painted them with DP-40. I tiger haired the other fender. I went into the house, and Im going to type up my journal entries.
May 12, 2000- I worked on the hood and the right fender.
May 15, 2000- I applied finer putty on the top of the hood and sanded the passenger fender. Dad sanded the driver-side fender.
May 16, 2000- I finished the putty on the hood and placed another coat of putty on the fenders. I painted the hood and the toolbox lid.
May 23, 2000- I worked on the driver-side fender and on the tailgate.
May 31, 2000- Tonight, I ran out of paint. I painted the hood a second time. Everything has been painted once and sanded over with 150 or 220 grit sandpaper. I applied some putty as well.
June 4, 2000- I undercoated the Jeep last night, and I used MP 181, 1k primer surfacer with MR 186 medium reducer, Omni brand, to paint the top surface. This special primer is used for fine sanding work.
June 5, 2000- I had the windshield welded at Wiemers Blacksmiths. This was fast and cheap. I painted the windshield with DP-40, the last of it. I also undercoated the fenders and did some fine putty work on the body. Yesterday, Bill Stripp came over, and we put the body on the frame with his small truck crane. Later, my brother and I went driving.
June 6, 2000- Mike Fredline came over. I dont have to primer surfacer again. I just need to wet sand. I installed the grille and both front fenders. This was very difficult. I finished puttying the last piece, the windshield.
June 7, 2000- I sanded the windshield and put on the hood. Both fit fine.
June 8, 2000- I had to cut up my new wiper blade arm from JC Whitney. It was too long.
June 11, 2000- I shortened the other wiper blade arm. I began wet sanding.
June 12, 2000- I wet sanded the tailgate and the hood. I sanded and repainted the windshield frame. I learned a great deal about wet sanding. Its really wet.
June 13, 2000- I wet sanded the hood. It had a hairline crack at the center where the two pieces of the hood came together. I put a groove there to prevent that from happening. I wet sanded the windshield frame and the Jeep body. I will finish wet sanding the windshield later tonight.
