Aug 7, 1999- This was a great day for sandblasting!! I went to town with Mom and rented an air compressor at Somerset Rent-All. Its a little Emglo with practically no tank, but it worked great. Daniel and Dad came back from hunting groundhogs and brought back grandpas air compressor. I wired it directly from the planer, and I had three compressors compressing. This time I couldnt keep up with three compressors. I started from where I finished yesterday at the bottom of the door and worked my way around to the other door on the outside. The three compressor team works well!! I had trouble at the end because I blew my last fuse and, in the dark, I painted the body. The paint gun clogged, but I shot some paint on the body.
Aug 9, 1999- Yesterday, I sandblasted from 7 am to 11: 30 am. I went to the Shockey reunion. Later, I sandblasted from 5:30 until 11:30 pm. I finished sandblasting the fender wells and the bed. I took the Emglo compressor back this morning. I bought mask filters, thinner, and sand. Im probably going to sweep up and paint here shortly.
Aug 11, 1999- Today I sandblasted, went to therapy, and sandblasted some more afterward. I also tore down the broken air compressor and couldnt make it to work, so I had to order more parts.
Aug 14, 1999- Yesterday, I painted under the dashboard, inside the toolbox, and the front floor. I went to therapy. I sandblasted the rear drivers side inner fender underneath the Jeep. I have finished 80 percent of the underside of the Jeep. I have some of the drivers side fender well to do yet and some of the firewall to finish, but the rest is complete.
Aug 16, 1999- I finished sandblasting the windshield, and I also painted today. I painted the underneath of the body, the windshield pieces, the seats, and the tranny cover. I finally am finished with of the sand. (It seems as if I have walked in the black dessert for a long time.) I picked up one more quart of DP40, but this time it is lead free. (It's not like it really matters. The Jeep had some "lead body work" done on the dash. That's right! It was real lead that was previously used instead of putty for body work. I don't think it would have been healthy to sand.) Environmental people stink. It took 10 days to sandblast and paint the body. I started sandblasting rims back on May 26.
Aug 21, 1999- I have finished sandblasting and cleaned the garage. I pressure washed the floor. I started to tiger hair the body today. (I patched the car.)
Aug 25, 1999- There was much tiger hairing and sanding.
Aug 27, 1999- I wore out both electric wiggle sanders. On first the brushes wore down to nothing and the second the main shaft ground out of the wiggle wheel. Today was the first and last day I used the electric sanders. I cleaned up everything in anticipation for Sundays departure. I am college bound.
Sept 4, 1999- I came back from college and purchased an air sander. It worked well. I sanded the whole side of the Jeep in just 5 hours. Now Im going to bed.
Nov 13, 1999- I just returned from school. I havent been home in a long time. (I met a girl named Lisa. I hope she likes my Jeep when its finished. (Later, Lisa and I would find ourselves painfully apart. Susan is the only one for me now and forever.)) I feel strange to be back. It's as if nothing was touched since I last left.
Dec 17, 1999- Im home for Christmas break. Things are looking nice. I sanded down everything and put a new coat of putty on the Jeep. Im using something called "Feather-rite." Its made by US Plastics and Chemicals. I also experimented with glaze. It isnt as runny as I thought it would be, but it is much smoother than regular putty. Im going in for the night. Tomorrow is another day.
Dec 22, 1999- Sanding, Sanding and more sanding. I molded the back pretty much how I wanted it on the rear fenders. I also decided to leave the bed mostly putty free because of problems with workload and the putty popping out of the bed. (Later, I would cover the bed with a black rubber mat and a seat.) I have gone through loads of sandpaper. I finished a small can of tiger hair, and Ive moved on to a larger one. Things are really beginning to shape up nicely.
