(An "Expert" in an auto parts store told me once that a brake drum puller was an absurd idea and that I just had to hit the drums with a sledge hammer. That doesn't work on an axle with a tapered shaft.)
May 17, 1999- I sealed the front and rear pumpkin (differential). The rear differential has a homemade gasket with blue gue (silicon sealant) and the front just had blue gue. I also jacked the jeep up, so its not three inches off the ground any longer. Its up high enough to put on wheels. If I had wheels. I ran the engine a little, and it seems to sound fine.
May 18, 1999- I worked on the squeaking transmission brake. I found that the squeaking was caused by a spring rubbing. I tore the assembly apart, realigned the spring, and now the assembly brakes quietly. I painted the muffler and tail pipe. I removed the tail pipe tube and discovered holes in the old tail pipe.
May 19, 1999- Today, Bill came over to help. He gave me wire, hoses, and a battery tie down. I rebuilt the master cylinder. I finished painting the exhaust this morning.
May 21, 1999- Yesterday, I sandblasted a rim. Today, I obtained the wheel cylinders. I painted them and put them on the Jeep. I also mounted the front driveline. The reused washers on the shocks are compliments of REC. I attached the steering gear box, the steering column, and the steering wheel. Those little 5/16 bolts are a pain. Theyre tough to keep in their places.
May 23, 1999- Yesterday Tobbler, Danny, Ginger, Herb, Mike, and Mark were shown what Jeep I have so far. Some of them seemed genuinely impressed awhile others said oh great?! I guess its not much to look at right now but in time it will be. Right now, I would say its having an out of body experience. I put the steering box back on after deciding it wasnt going on and it wasnt coming off either.
May 24,1999- I installed the front shocks.
May 26, 1999- I sandblasted another rim and painted it with Rustoleum primer.
May 27, 1999- I sandblasted and painted another rim.
May 28, 1999- I almost finished sandblasting the third rim.
