Jan 3, 1999- I tore down the front differential with Danny Stripp. Dad made the suggestion to tap the huge nut with a chisel to loosen it, which worked. The parts look wonderful. There is a small amount of wear but nothing about which to worry. The rubber gaskets and seals were junk and needed replaced. Also I tore down the transmission with Danny Stripp and finished it myself. There were some very tiny pieces that appeared damaged but it was difficult to be sure. I made a grave mistake taking the transmission apart. I put a tiny chip in the "counter shaft gear set;" however I don't think this will be a problem. This is only an extremely tiny chip. I used the old bathroom door as a table with an old tarp on top. The transmission needed to be torn down. It was tremendously dirty. (I am loving the Craftsman tools I received for Christmas.) I think my parents finally approve of me having a jeep, but unfortunately I must go back to college today; my jeep shall rest again.
