Beatdown
Currently the most used deck. This type of deck is constructed using only the highest attacking 4 star monsters to beat your opponent to a pulp. This deck works great with monster removal cards because when your opponents field is clear, you do more damage. Even though it works with monster removal cards, it is also very vulnerable to monster removal cards. Any cards that stop monsters from attacking or from being summoned are the worst nightmare for this deck. This deck should also have some upgrades. Its already strong, but why not make it stronger like by adding an Axe of Despair or Malevolent Nuzzler. This deck is pretty easy to build, just grab your high attack 4 star monsters and you have half of your beatdown deck.
Suicide Beatdown
This deck has most of the attributes of a beatdown deck. The only difference it uses tons of cards that deplete your life points, which sometimes can finish your opponent quicker and give you a bigger advantage, but you also hurt yourself. This deck uses Megamorph as a final blow because your life points are more likely to be lower. And just think of the damage you can do if you get a good monster with Megamorph and other power ups to do direct damage. You may lose most of your life points during the duel and be a huge disadvantage, but it might pay off in the end. This deck will get better with the release of other sets and get more popular.
Exodia
Not popular, but very effective. Most people get nervous against this deck but you shouldnt get nervous if your prepared. This deck is nothing but luck/stalling/drawing. Just include hand disruption cards, and cards that remove cards from the graveyard, so they cant use Back-up Soldier to bring back exodia. If you run an Exodia deck, make sure you include lots of cards that stall your opponent. You also need a lot of drawing power. Witch of the Black Forest and Sangan should be key cards in your deck, just make sure you get them on and off the field immediately, even if you have to lose life points like attacking a monster with a high attack, and using Monster Reborn, Premature Burial, Call of the Haunted, etc. to bring them back. You also must have a side deck for this deck.
Burner
Not to popular, but deadly if used correctly. This deck include cards that do direct damage, and life point increasement cards. Your opponent cant really stop the damage, which makes deadly. Also use monster Direct Damage Cards, with Gravity Bind/Messenger of Peace to do tons more damage.
This decks defense is usually weak, so use good stall cards to strengthen its defense. If you can stall while causing direct damage then you should be fine.
Hand / Deck Disruption
The whole purpose of this type of deck is to disrupt your opponents hand which means you use cards that let your opponent draw cards (Bistro Butcher, Morphing Jar #2, etc.) then use cards that discard your opponents hand (Card Destruction, White Magical Hat, Robbin Goblin, etc.). These decks rely on stalling and making the opponent draw. If you keep on doing this, eventually your opponent will run out of cards to draw.
Weenie Rush
A fun deck to play. This type of deck have lots of low attack monsters with cool effects (direct life point damage), combined with Gravity Bind and Messenger of Peace and other stall cards. Since most people play with Beatdown decks, this deck is its worst nightmare. Your opponent cant attack, but you can, just make sure you protect those Gravity Binds and Messenger of Peaces, because without those you are screwed, so include stall cards as back-up. Include good equip cards to power up those small monsters to finish off your opponent more quickly.
Themed Decks
This type of deck uses one Primary Type to attack with. Like using only earth type or fire type monsters in a deck. For this deck, you have all of the power ups that upgrade only that type-Field Magic Cards, and Monster Cards that also power up is type. The weakness in this deck, if your opponent manages to take out all of the main upgrades, you are left with ordinary monsters most likely 1700 + monsters. These decks also rely too much on the upgrade cards in order for the whole thing to work. Just make sure you have a back-up plan for this deck.
Toon Decks
I have seen lots of toon decks, but only a few are good. When it comes to Toons a lot of people dont think hard enough. Most Toon Decks I have seen never have cards to protect their magic/traps cards, and that is one of the most important things. When Toon Monsters get on the field they are very destructive, but also hard to summon. Also, all of your Toon Monsters can be destroyed by a single De-spell, which is why you must protect those cards. Cold Wave and other good stall cards that protect your magic and trap cards MUST be in this deck, as well as your Toon Monsters. You may also want to include power up cards to beef up your toons so when they are on the field, they can do tons of damage. This deck also needs more cards from upcoming sets to be perfected.
