Hiya,
this page is compliments of Squirtdog!!!
We
thank him so much.
Hope
you all enjoy the pics. They are from different parts of Southgang's life. They
include pics from Roulette, Byte the Bullet, and just some friends having
fun. M3 also has some shots here. We have decided to link to the pics so
that you don't have to wait for them all to download at once. If you like
this please let us know. If you don't well it might take us awhile to get
this page set up in the same format as the rest of the site. But I am sure
we will manage. Hope you enjoy these as much as we do!!!! Thank you so
much Brian!!!
Let's
get started.
CHAPTER
1
This is an old flyer of Byte the Bullets. Jesse was caught with his mouth open and not too happy about the pic. Right below is Brian's story of this pic.
This pic is an out-take of a photoshoot we did for our flyers.
Buscuit will kill me for this one b/c he was caught talking and
his
mouth is open. We gave him hell. I don't have the orginal
flyer pic.
We took these at slug's dads pool business place where we
practiced
in Rome. Butch would do our hair. We would have Freeze-Dry, we
called hair cement, and spray it on a towel and knot our hair w/
it to
make it stand up. Took days to get all the tangles out. We
shared
all our cloths. Again, Butch had the coolest cloths so we were
always
borrowing stuff from him. Brings back glam days in a hurry
doesn't
it!
This is a pic of Squirtdog/Brian and Jesse
This is a flyer from the Byte the Bullet when they were first headed to CA to give it a go!
This one is Jesse just relaxing. Very good pic whoever took it.
This is Jes just before a show and ready to rumble.
This is Jesse and Brian relaxing. Great pic guys!!
This is a pic that includes Jeff Hines who from what I understand is trouble. =)
Mitch, Jesse and Brian!!
A close up of Mitch, Jesse and Brian. It is awesome. My ? is who is running the camera??
REHEARSAL TIME!!!
REHEARSAL 2
Here is a great pic of Brian and Jesse!!
Roulette about 1987, before Byte the Bullet and Southgang!!!
Jayce during a short set they played for the party.
This is from the first show Roulette ever played, Jesse playing guitar. We are so glad that
Squirtdog decided to send it. He was only singing back up at the
time.
Here is Butch at the party, Squirtdog says he reminds him of Nikki Sixx here, we have to agree.
Another shot of Roulette!
Here is Brian's words for the upper link:I believe this one is before Jesse was even singing lead. This
is a
show from 1986 in Calhoun, Ga. We rented out the city hall and
through a big party in honor of our first show. This was the
only
show with singer Jeff Hines, who is still good buds with all.
We
thought we were cooooooool!
ROULETTE
This is the first letter I got from Squirtdog and it is so good and so informative of the guys that I thought sharing it would be a bonus to alot of people.
Hey, GREAT PAGE!!!! Biscuit called me yesterday and told me
about your
wonderful page. He was really excited and I could tell it made
his day.
My name is Brian "Squirtdog" Kirtland, we all have some sort of
nickname! I am the bass player that played with Byte the Bullet
before
Jayce took my place. I'm still best friends with biscuit and
talk with
him frequently and hook-up with him when he flies home, usually
about 2x
a year. He is fine and healthy and looked great at christmas
this
year. I really enjoyed your page, stories, and pics. Boy, I'd
love to
show you all kinds of pic of Biscuit from the past. I met him
when he
played with Oasis and we joined with Meat (Alan Greene), Warknot
(Brian
Cantrell) from Catersville, GA and Hines (jeff hines) to form
Roulette.
At that time Biscuit just played guitar and sang back-up. He
was a hell
of a guitar player and I still get on his ass about not playing
much
anymore. After Hines left the band. Alan, Cantrell and I decided that maybe Biscuit could
do all
the singing because he had a stronger voice. BUT, his voice was
not the
same as what you hear in SouthGang. It was much rawer and
untamed. For
the next year and 1/2 we played constantly and his voice grew.
It is
amazing to listen to our old tapes and hear the difference and
the raw
talent! Then, Biscuit and I decided to join up with Butch (Brad
Walker)
and Mitch (Doug Mitchell)"slug" who were in the Rome vival band
"Bad
Boys". They had a hell of a band but several members used too
many
drugs for them. So we became "Byte the Bullet" in a very quick
time
frame. We practiced in Rome at Slugs parents pool supply store.
We
were sitting out front one night trying to think of a name and I
think
Butch or Biscuit came up with it and we went with it after we
couldn't
think of anything better! Our first gig was at the biggest
Atlanta rock
club called "Danny's" and there were maybe 600 people there to
see the
"new" band. I remember it didn't go very well b/c we had only
practiced
for about a month and 1/2. This VERY first song we practiced was
called
"Russian Roulette" and the only of about 10 orginals that I was
involved
in writing that made it to their first albumn. I still have the
tape
that Butch gave Buscuit and I of just guitar and drums but it
rocks even
in that early version.
Well I've rambled enough, I just got excited seeing all those
pics and
thinking of old times and stories. I'd be glad to seen you some
old
pics of biscuit through his early band years. They are funny as
hell
b/c spandex was in big at the time! I still keep in touch with
the
other members of SouthGang, also. They are a threesome now and
are
called The Marvelous Three. They are a GREAT band also, but you
have to
get used to Butch singing. Butch wrote most of the music in all
his
bands and is a true musical genius, totally amazing to work
with. I can
still here SG in his latest project but with a more commercial
feel.
It's cool and they are doing very well and will probably be
picked up
soon by another label.
Biscuit said yesterday that he looks to get back into
recording some
in the near future! That is great news and I have always pushed
him to
write. He had a great demo he made after SG but always
questioned the
direction he wanted to go. Hope he gets motivated so we can
hear some
great singing! Squirtdog
Here are some more pics of a party thrown for Southgang with an ice sculture of their name!!
Here is part of the letter from Squirtdog that tells more about the party with the ice sculture.
This is at the party right when you walk in, there was a huge
ice sculpture that said SOUTH GANG. Balloons and streamers were
hanging from the ceiling and in the distance you can see the"tainted
angels". They were playboy models rented for the evening thatwere
dressed up in angel costumes! You could have your pic takenwith
them. And boy have I got plenty of those!!!! :) But I'll sendyou
just one for fun. There was also a girl in a devil costume in acage
by the stage. I didn't get a pic of her :( They had a countrymeal
catered in, an open bar, and they played a short set as well. Many
stars and record execs were there.
Here is one of Squirtdog's fav pics, says it just captures the moment so well.
Here are the Tainted Angel backup
singers. They did an awesome job!
ONE OF THE GREATEST PICS OF ALL TIME!
