On October 27, 1999,  I was busily working, and training my replacement for maternity leave.  at about 10:00 am, I started to feel something but wasn't quite sure what it was.  Several people asked me if I was OK.  by the end of the day, the baby had "dropped" considerably, and I was having what I believed to be contractions.

I went home, and dh, asked "how was work?"  I responded by "I think I'm in labour".  Shock set in, he had me sit and time my contractions.  I was scared and crying.  This is it!  The baby was 3 weeks early.  My contractions were 5 minutes apart at 5:30pm.  At 7:00 we had to get ready to play in a 8-ball pool league (we ended up not going).  My contractions were 2 /12 minutes apart and not subsiding!  I called the Doctor and he advised me to get to the hospital quickly since my contractions were so close together.  My dh made me sit on a bath towel to the hospital in case my water broke.  We were off to the hospital at 8:30 pm.

I was 1 cm dilated at 9:00, we decided to walk through the contractions to try and speed things up.  While walking the corridors at the hospital I can hear women screaming in pain "get it out, get it out, get it out! It HURTS!!"  (I left out the profanity)  I thought, my god, WHAT did I get myself into?  It's a little late to change my mind now! After several hours of walking, at 11:30 I was checked, I was complaining of pain and pressure, 4cm!  I was allowed to get an epidural.  At 12:00 midnight I started to get my epidural.  Yes, started.  We were at a teaching hospital and it took 3 tries for the student to get the epidural in.  By the time they were done at 1:20 am, the nurse checked me, I was 8 cm, and my water broke.  Oh, the baby was coming fast!  The called the Doctor, woke him up, and made him rush in for this labour.  The baby got stuck!

I started pushing at 2:00 am and continued to push until 3:30.  They topped up my epidural so I could get some rest.  My dh still comments on how he was watching the monitor, the contractions were going off the paper and I was SNORING through them.  At 5:00 am I woke up.  OK, enough of this, let's push this kid out.  I pushed, and pushed, and pushed.  Every position you could imagine, legs up everywhere.

At 6:00 they wheeled me into the surgery room, wheeled by the nurses station, someone is looking for a Melissa & Dean, my mom was on the phone.  She hasn't slept and wants to know what is going on, do we have a baby yet?  They had to pull out the baby with forceps.  It's a girl!  She is mommies clone!  Kylie Madelyn was born at 6:34 am, October 28, 1999, 20 inches long, 7 lbs 13 oz.  At 8:30 am, I phoned into work, sorry, I won't be in for 6 months, just had a baby!

I was in the hospital for a week.  My water works broke down from the pressure of the forceps and had bruised my bladder.  I could not pee on my own, amongst other things.  I was cut and stitched from one end to the other.  Good thing they stitched it up or my guts would've fallen out.
