| I woke up on the 16th of March, my due date, and little Justan had no ideas of coming soon-at least not in my timing. I woke up in our new apartment on a Friday after moving from Kent-such a relief from the city, and was TOTALLY READY for baby to appear ANY TIME! I was in a rotten mood and SOO BADLY wanted to to be in labor! So lying in bed I was crabby when Sean came to kiss me goodbye. Of course it was his fault that the baby was late.(well, not actually late, late, but according to my history (Nathan was 1 week early,) I was late in my head. Anyway, I managed to make it through the day and the weekend came. Saturday we went to Olive Garden and I purposely had spicy soup to try to induce labor. I never eat really spicy food that I can avoid. I was desperate! I think we we did some walking and nothing. The next day my parents invited us to a Mexican Restaurant and again, I ate lots of spicy food!!! As I left I told mom that she can't plan on having us come on vacation with them in a month and a half because they have no hospitals there. (hah, hah, I was still in a grand mood). That afternoon around 4pm I was SOOO tired I took a nap for about two hours. I woke up at six, had some dinner and when Nathan went to bed, I made a huge microwave bag of popcorn and ate it all my self with some hot chocolate it front of "who wants to be a millionaire". At ten I went to bed ready to face another uneventful day. (Monday) Well, I woke up at 2 am and felt these funny pains. I thought not too much of them because they weren't what I had with my first when I went into labor. At 4:30 I again woke up and the pains were worse. I started timing them and they were coming every five to six minutes. Hmmm, I wondered...So I continued timing them and a little later I went ahead and told Sean that I think I was in labor. At six am I got dressed and ready. I called my mom and told her that these pains were way to strong to be false labor. (I had gone in two weeks earlier to the hospital with false labor.) So we grabbed the hospital bags, and Nathan and I went over to my Mom's and I sent Sean to work since it was probably going to be a while. I timed contractions watching Little House on the Prairie at my moms and had some cheerios. Well, I assumed I would go to the clinic when it opened and have the Dr. check me out, but my mom saw my contraction record (every two to three minutes) and said "these are really close, you should go to the hospital!" So I called Sean and told him to come home (he hadn't even arrived at work, I had to leave a message!) called a babysitter and she came over and so mom and I went to Labor and Delivery at our Community Hospital at about 8am. The nurse checked me and said I was about 1.5 dilated and I think I might have been about 75% effaced. They monitored me and about 8am my Dr. was making his rounds at the hospital and came to check me. He broke my water and then I walked and walked and walked!! ALL OVER THE HOSPITAL!In the Emergency room, down the halls etc! Sean then came and I asked if he could get the birthing ball. (SO COMFORTABLE!) Well, the hospital had one so I had that one ready for later when I was going to get in the shower. More Walking. The contractions were starting to get very uncomfortable at this time and I hardly could walk. But I did anyway. I remember walking to the cafeteria downstairs and when a contraction hit, all I saw, leaning against a food donation barrel was Top Ramen packages in it. |
