| I had a pretty wonderful birth experience and Ithought I would share it with all of you. My due date of 6/12/00 came and went with no end in sight. Went to doctor every week with little or no progress. My doctor at 39 weeks decided to strip my membranes to try and make the baby come on its on because he was afraid she would be a big baby. Needless to say this painful experience did not work. That night I had some menstrual like cramps and I thought well maybe it did work. Boy was I wrong, those were nothing compared to real labor pains. I went to the doctor on 6/19/00 and they decided to schedule me for induction on 6/21. I had everything all planned out and that night of the 20th I had trouble getting to sleep because I was nervous. Well, I finally got comfortable and almost dosed off when it hit me. CONTRACTION. The first one hit me at about 1:30 a.m. I had all of these fairytale dreams of how everything would be: I would take a shower and get ready and be completely refreshed and ready for labor. The shower did nothing for me. I timed my contractions which were 7 minutes apart for 1 hour and then 5 minutes apart for an hour. I then decided to wake up my husband. He, still half asleep, looked at me and went back to sleep. I shook him again and said "I THINK I'M IN LABOR". He then jumped out of bed and became really nervous. I got dressed and called my doctor. The midwife called me back and asked me if I wanted to stay home and take a bath until I was farther along. Are you kidding? I was scared to death and I certainly didn't want to have this baby in rush hour traffic(only a few hours away). So, I called my parents and we left for the hospital. It was about 4:30a.m. by this time. The drive to the hospital was humerous. Everytime a contraction would hit me(every 5 minutes), my husband would floor it. After they would pass I would have to remind him to slow down-we had plenty of time. This went on for about 30 minutes. When we arrived at the hospital they put me in a room and checked me. I was already 4cm. Yeah! They told me I could have an epidural if I wanted one. Most of the contractions had stopped by now, but knowing they were about to break my water and start pitocin, I took it. I was so miserable just lying there. No pain, but I was so tired. I would dose off in between blood pressure checks. I finally got to 8 1/2cm by 3:00p.m. and I stayed there. My doctor came in around 5:30 p.m. and said he really didn't feel that I was going to progress any further and we decided he would do a c-section. The medicine they gave me made me shake uncontrollably. I didn't have time to be scared at this point. They took me to OR and strapped my arms to boards out to my side. My husband was in there with me which was nice. At 6:36p.m. they finally pulled out our beautiful 8lbs 1oz, 20.5 inch long daughter. My husband almost cried and he is not the type to do that. I told him to go with her when they took her out of the room. They sent me to recovery and he was there with our daughter. I have to say that this was the happiest experience of my life. She really was and still is beautiful. |
