On Sunday, December 8th, We attended a Kids Christmas party, Me, Kylie, Grandma (my mom), My sister and her kids. With only 3 days to go until my EDD I was very tired of every asking when this baby was coming, because I don't think anyone was more ready then I was.

All day Sunday, and a couple days prior to that I was having contractions, but nothing that was timeable. Since we already went through false labor 2x, I was going to be sure when the time was right to go to the hospital, we were going.

Sunday evening, I went to bed about 11:10pm. After lying in bed for 10-15 minutes, I had this very strong and painful contraction where I couldn't get out of bed. I looked at the clock and waited for the next one. 5 minutes later I had another one, then 3 minutes, then 7 minutes. Again, nothing that was "regular". But because they were so strong, I decided I was going to get up and get dressed. Dean came upstairs and asked if everything was ok, and I told him contractions were about 4/5 minutes apart, so we went downstairs (about midnight now) and timed them.

Again nothing regular. Nothing where we could anticipate when the next contraction was coming. They were getting so very strong and intense I couldn't walk or talk through them, and decided I should pack some things up. I was standing in the bathroom, packing up shampoo and stuff like that when Dean walked by and asked how everything was. I looked at him and said "My water just broke".

It was kind of funny because we both looked down at our brand new carpet waiting to see something come gushing from me. I felt the contraction and the "pop" but also remembered earlier that I had put on a pad because I felt so much pressure. I just saved our carpet!

It was now 12:45 am. Then Dean really started scrambling and I backed slowly to the toilet to have a seat. We phoned my mom, who arrived in 10 minutes, and the Doctor, who never phoned us back. We left our house at 1:04 am.

When we arrived at the hospital, I was checked in at 7 cms. I was telling everyone, get me an EPI, I want an EPI. Well by the time they were done checking me, and Dean went to move the van from ER parking, he got back and I was at 9 cms. They gave me "laughing gas" which did not make me laugh, and did not help the situation.

All of a sudden I had to push. REALLY push. The nurses are telling me not to push, but your body just does it's own thing and two pushes, the head was there and the nurses were screaming don't push, the Doctor is not here yet! Well someone better catch this baby because it is coming!  After the 4th push, I could feel the head crowning, felt another "pop" and the burn, ah yes, there was the "tear". OUCH!  And everyone on the 3rd floor at St. Boniface Hospital heard it too.  Two more pushes, for a total of 6 pushes, and Jenna Carlen was welcomed into this world at 2:12 am. Weighing in at 7lbs 14ozs and 20.5 inches long.

After 48 hours in the hospital we were released. Jenna is an excellent breast feeder. Shortly after we got home yesterday, my milk came in so it was a nice welcome home present for Jenna. Her first "real meal" at home. She is feeding every 3-4 hours, and needs (hates) having her bum changed every feeding.

Kylie is very excited, proud,  and very protective of her baby sister.  The dogs are not allowed to go near Jenna.  Kylie was very curious to see how Jenna was being fed via breast, and is very happy (for now) to help with feedings and diapers.
