I Went Dancing With the Monarchs
on a Sunday Afternoon
I was sitting in my office
when the humdrums came to
call;
they caught me by surprise
I hadn't thought of them at
all.
They yawned and stretched
and lolled about
indifferent to my needs.
They started taking root
just like a garden full of
weeds.
I didn't like their presence
they were mucking up my day.
I vowed that I would change
my life
and chase them clean away.
I went dancing with the Monarchs
on a Sunday afternoon
on a clear and sunny summer's
day;
(I think it was mid-June).
We pirouetted gaily
beneath a pale blue sky
and I laughed with light abandon
as my friends did flutter
by.
As I rose to the occasion
I felt my spirit soar
and I knew those awful humdrums
would bother me no more.
I'm giving you this poem
so you'll know just what to
do
if those boring little humdrums
ever come to visit you.
