BULLYING
Almost everyone at some time or other gets bullied. It can take many forms from physical to mental abuse. The physical abuse is obvious, but sometimes it is simply mental abuse that can make a person lose confidence and not know where they stand with the world. When it happens every day at school, though the person may be quite normal, they can be made to feel like they are ugly and probably never will find a mate. That is never true. The people who do the bullying don't know themselves why they bully. When asked years later, it appears to be a case of "monkey see, monkey do" They say they did it because someone else did it first. Whatever the reason, bullies have one thing in common, immaturity. Their body has grown, they look like adults, but their brain has not caught up with their body. Sometimes they don't mature until long after they have graduated high school. I noted this in the one year course I took in business college. Although most people there were mature, I noted one girl who was at a Junior High level of maturity. She used to make fun of people, but when she didn't have followers, she soon stopped. That is the key. When noone goes along with the bully, or laughs with him, it soon stops. I attended a dance at the Agricultural College and only danced with one guy. That was someone I met in a Paul Jones Dance. (Paul Jones dances, for those of you who don't know, are where the guys go in a circle in one direction, the girls in the other. When the music stops, the one opposite them is their partner) To this day, my hubby doesn't realize why I hate Paul Jones dances!. When I got out working, there were a few immature school drop-outs, some of whom I attended school with, who were still in that same making-fun mode. However, when I went to a dance in Halifax, I met mature people who treated me as an equal. I was finally just like everyone else. I have made up a poem about it on the next page. As you can see my life changed drastically for the better as though Heaven had decided I was ready for the change. |
