Renaissance Man
Captain Janeway and The Doctor are returning from a medical conference together. The Doctor mentions that he wishes to spend more off time hours with the Captain like she spends with Chakotay and Seven. Their conversation is interrupted as they are attacked and Delta Quadrant beings take Captain Kathryn Janeway hostage. It's up to The Doctor to fulfill the requirements of their ransom: the U.S.S. Voyager warp core itself. The Doctor returns to Voyager disguised as Captain Janeway and reports a false story to Chakotay that Voyager has violated the laws of the aliens who own the sector they've been travelling through. The penalty is the surrendering of Voyager's warp core. The fact that Janeway is willing to so easily forfeit the core and destroy the crew's means of getting home raises Chakotay's suspicions. As he outmaneuvers and discovers the doctor's charade he confronts the Doctor and is rendered unconscious by the Doctor. Now the Doctor must also impersonate Chakotay as he tries to find a way to get Voyager's warp core. After more crafty maneuvering and impersonating several more crew members,knowing that one false move will result in the immediate execution of his Captain, the Doctor manages to eject the warp core, steal the Delta Flier and take the core to the aliens holding Captain Janeway. Much to his dismay the aliens had no intent to keep their end of the bargain to release Janeway and instead also take the Doctor prisoner, adding extra data to his program to make him the perfect spy. Instead, they end up overloading his system and he starts to destabilize. Meanwhile,Voyager conducts a search for the missing crew members the Doctor sedated and try to get the ship back up and running without the warp core. When power comes back online music that the Doctor had performed at a concert earlier begins to play in all areas of the ship but is off tune. The crew figures out that the Doctor had hidden the location of the aliens in the music. Tuvok and Paris set off in a shuttle craft to rescue Janeway and the Doctor. They manage to damage the alien vessel and to force them to release the warp core. As one alien sets to blow up the warp core to mask their escape, his comrade turns on him and knocks him unconscious, freeing Janeway and the Doctor. As Torres and Seven try to stabilize his matrix the Doctor makes a frantic deathbed confession to the crewmembers. But Seven and Torres manage to stabilize him and he ends up embarassed over what he admitted including his love for Seven.
