The Caretaker Part I
Lt. Tuvok has infiltrated a Maquis cell commanded by the Maquis captain, Chakotay. When communication is lost after the Maquis enter an area known as the Badlands, Tuvok's commanding officer, Captain Janeway, sets out to find them.
A surprise addition to her crew is Tom Paris, a former Maquis, whom Janeway recruits to help guide her ship, Voyager, through the Badlands. Due to his activity with the Maquis and past transgressions while in Starfleet, many of Voyager's crew view Paris as a traitor. Only ensign Kim attempts to befriend Paris.
After reaching the Badlands, Voyager runs into an anomaly that sends the ship hurtling to the Delta Quadrant, 70,000 light years away from home. A number of the crewmembers are killed, including their Chief Medical Officer, leaving the emergency medical hologram(EMH) to tend to the crew. Almost immediately upon arrival in the Delta Quadrant the entire crew is transported off the ship to a farm filled with friendly humans. Little does Voyager know that this is actually an illusion created within a space station called the Array. Here the crew of Voyager finds the missing Maquis and Tuvok.
After being subjected to a series of examinations, the crews of Voyager and the Maquis vessel are returned to their ships-excepting Harry Kim from Voyager and B'Elanna Torres-the half-Klingon, half-human engineer from the Maquis ship. Refusing to leave her missing crewman behind, Janeway returns to the farm to confront the only remaining human hologram, an old man playing a banjo. But he ignores all of Janeway's attempts to locate the two missing people.
Not knowing what else to do Janeway sets course towards a planet in the neighboring system which is the target of energy pulses from the Array. There, Kim and Torres regain consciousness and find themselves in a medical facility deep beneath the planet's surface. Neither knows why nor whether they will ever see their ship again.
