Spencer to the rescue!
You know when God gave of himself and gave mankind the dog, we are sometimes reminded just how
exceptional they really are. I know when my Spencer's time comes he's going to heaven with both a halo
and wings.
Last evening around 4:30 he started barking and running along the back fence. When I checked to see what
he was barking at there were two mid teen girls standing (looked like talking) or visiting just outside
of the wooden fence. (We back a open space that has a sidewalk where people can walk and or walk their
dogs all the time.) Rarely do people stand close to our yard because of the dogs barking at
them. Usually if somebody goes to the back patio doors the people move on and even rarer does Spencer
give them much heed. He leaves that to the younger goofs like Mac and Granite. But something really had
Spencer worked up. So I called him in with Ivy (as she likes to express her opinion about how close you
are to something of hers. Yet this time Spencer came part of the way and then turned and looked back at
the fence and barked again. I called him in and he came with tail down and very slowly. Just as I had
him threw the glass doors one of the girls starts yelling at the other girl. Of late we've had problems
with people dropping pets off in this open space. And teenagers have been spraying paint on peoples back
fences. I always keep a camera handy because as many know I enjoy taking natural photos of the dogs or
things in the open space. So I can't explain why, but I took a photo of the two girls standing there
yelling at one another. (From the sound of things it was over a boy.) At first I thought the first girl
pulled the other one down to keep me from taking their picture. Meantime Spencer had run back outside
and is going NUTS on this side of the fence. I could hear them yelling still, so I went to the second
floor to see just what was going on and why they pulled down. When I looked out the window the two girls
are swinging fists upon each other and rolling all over the place yelling and pulling hair. I called the
cops and it took them awhile but they did show up just as it was turning dark. Mean time the two girls
tried to hide when they heard the sirens from the police car. Now there has been heavy big yellow cat
equipment working out in the open space and they are parked right behind our house. The girls tried
hiding behind the big tires of the equipment. Spencer wouldn't stop barking at this one big tire and
when I tried to pull him inside he'd break away and go running back. Turns out one of the girls was
hiding behind the tire. She had knifed the other girl which the cops found her bleeding and the knife
was beside her on the sidewalk. The second girl tried to make a break for it and tried to hide when see
saw the police car coming. The cops said if it hadn't been for my dogs barking who knows what might of
happened.
