This is Joyce's Story
I am a college student in a graduate program for an M.A. in English and an M.F.A. in Creative Writing.
When I am not busy studying or writing I love to travel as much as possible. Luckily so does my dog
guide. Griggs and I have only been a team since October, but my first partner loved to travel. We flew
the friendly skies and he was amazed when what he thought was a room we had entered roared and shook as
we prepared for takeoff. Once we were in the air his forehead unwrinkled and he relaxed on the floor at
me feet for the rest of the trip. When we took the Amtrak super liner to Washington State from the
Midwest he looked out the observation car window with as much interest as the child sitting next to us
with his grand parents. I was very pleased when he sat still and observed the AuSable River bank as we
glided past in a canoe with two blind friends and a camp counselor. He didn't like the speed boat as
much as I did, though. Too many sharp turns and too much water coming over the side. Like the true
partner to an English major Bradley enjoyed the literary tour trip with students and profs through New
England as much as I did. He especially liked the ocean the replica of the Mayflower ship and pilgrim
village, and the Shaker farm. He seemed to like Emily Dickinson's garden, the Alcott home, Emerson's
house, and Walden Pond. No, he loved Walden Pond. I am looking forward to sharing adventures with
Griggs as well. I have already seen the wander lust in his big brown eyes. Yes, I did say the see word.
There are many different kinds of blindness. I have Retinitis Pigmentosa more commonly called tunnel
vision
