To allow her Granddaughter 's Seizure Alert Dog go to school with her
To Whom it may concern: I am writing in response to something that I saw on TV the other day. I saw
that the fire department has been using dogs to help them with what they do. This is great that dogs
have proven that they are amazing animals. Dogs have been helping humans for years. They have helped
soldiers in war. Help find people, which are lost. The police have used them for there partners for
crime and drugs arrests. Dogs have proven that they assist humans and that they are here not just for
pets but also to do a job that some and most humans cannot.
That is why I am writing this letter.
I have a granddaughter that has a Service Dog and yet she cannot take her with her. Yet, the fire
department, police, search, and rescue have used them for years. They have showed how incredible that
these animals can be. What I saw the other day was just amazing to me that I could not believe it
My granddaughter has Epilepsy and her dog is there for her protection so when she goes into a
seizure she will not get hurt. I saw her Service Dog actually stop her from going up the stairs.
The two of them are connected with a harness that puts them together so that if my granddaughter is
close to any danger that she will stop her. (E.g. traffic, stairs, crossing the street) My
granddaughter knew that she was or going into a seizure and if she went up the stairs she could have gotten hurt.
This dog of hers could show you that she is right up they' re with those other incredible dogs that are
all over this world. So why can't she have her dog where she goes. It is not fair that my granddaughter
has to keep her service dog at home because there is no law that will allow her to take her dog wherever
she has to goes. The dog of hers assists her in her daily life. The two of them have formed a bond that
when my granddaughter goes out with her family you can tell that she is not comfortable she is missing
her dog and she feels scared. Her dog can smell the seizure and warns her and her parents of any
danger. If she is not there who will help her. Her parents can help her but they have two other girls
and need their attention to. So her Service Dog just does not help her, it helps the other members of
her family. They know that if my granddaughter has her Service Dog with her she is safe from danger.
It is to bad that my granddaughter has to be home schooled because there is no school in Edmonton
that will allow her and her Service dog. She is limited to where she has to go and sometimes she does
not want to go anywhere cause her dog cannot go with her. It is as if she is jailed in her own house.
She would be so happy if she could wake up one morning and are told your Service Dog can go anywhere
you go. I hope in the near future that it will happen. I would see my granddaughter so happy and excited
it will fill my heart with joy. As a grandmother that is all you, want for you grandchildren and the
rest of your family Thank-you!
