It Was Then
When
I heard the voices
Of such cruel children
Speaking words of hate
Words never forgiven
The
laughter that would follow
Pain my heart denied
And with those passing trials
It was then I cried
When
I saw my school days ruined
By my actions in study
Book knowledge I must work for
Success never came for free
The
failure that would follow
For me future denied
And with that passing foolishness
It was then I cried
When
I read the first lines
Of love so dear and true
The lines I never imagined
I would receive from you
The
passion that would follow
That my heart never denied
And when we said I do
It was then I cried
The
first awakening moment
After I knew my son was here
I searched for his face
And his voice I did hear
The
joy that would follow
A son that is our pride
And when I first held him
It was then I cried
So
I see my failures clear
And my blessings all around
I know through tests and gifts
Love is easily found
And
when I look back
Upon my life’s sweet ride
I know I will remember
It was then I cried
