It's a proven fact; no house or apartment ever has enough closet space.  So how you organize it can make a significant difference in your ability to look good, find things and keep frustration down.

Remember an important statistic ~ we typically wear 20% of our clothes 80% of the time.  Which means that 80% of your clothes could undergo careful scrutiny as to their current usefulness.

When a closet becomes stuffed and jumbled, you must begin by emptying it completely.

Resolve to do the job in one session ~ it really doesn't take as long as you think.  A closet is an integrated whole, you must treat it as a unit.

As you empty the closet, examine each item, remembering what you are looking for here is quality over quanitity.  Sort as you go.  Have a box or bag nearby for those things to be given to charity and a large waste basket as well.

When you come to objects which do not belong in the closet, put them in another box to be redistributed when you are done.

Begin returning things in categories, storing items in see-through containers or in boxes clearly marked with an identifying label.

Frequently used items should should be stored within easy reach, items used less often on the top shelves.  Never hide an item by placing another in front of it.

Hangers all of the same type work best.  A jumble of different kinds of hangers ends up being just that ~ a jumble.  Invest in the type of hanger that works best for you and discard all the others.

Some people prefer to arrange clothing by activity, ie. leisure, work, social occasions ~ while others find hanging the same type of clothing together ie. shirts/blouses, pants/slacks, dresses, etc. works best for them.  Whatever works for you, be consistent in how you do it.

Another good habit to develop is to rotate your clothese and shoes by season, emptying the closet and drawers of the past season's garments and replacing them with the apporaching one.  This will force you to look at each piece as you move it and determine if it is still usable.  In addition, you will have twice the space because you now have half the amount of clothes stored there.

Now that you have finished organizing your closet you will actually be able to see what you own.  Deciding what to wear in the morning will become so much easier.
