Strangers with Candy
Bogie Nights

It's "Saint Arbor's Day" again, and that can only mean one thing:  It's time for Flatpoint High's annual Sadie Hawkins Day Dance.  This year's theme is a golf theme, entitled, "Bogie Nights."  Jerri doesn't know who to invite to the dance.  Orlando tries subtle tactics to show his interest in Jerri, including making her a friendship collage.  Joining the Flatpoint student body is Ricky, a new student.  Everyone in Flatpoint thinks that new means bad, so Jerri has to hide her feelings for Ricky.  She also slashes the tire to Ricky's car, due to the peer pressure she has put on herself.  She later further damages his car and a sonnets book when some other girls see her talking to Ricky.

Principal Blackman, Mr. Jellineck and Jerri's stepmother want Jerri to go to the dance with one of
the violent students, who need escorts.  Jerri is assured that if she takes one of the violent students to the dance, she'll be provided with a taser and her dress will have reinforced "trouble spots."  Jerri writes Ricky's name over her name on the friendship collage Orlando made for her and she gives it to Ricky.  Jerri asks Ricky to the dance, and she also sends Ricky to her man Nico for his car part replacement needs.  Orlando sees the collage Jerri gave to Ricky, and he is hurt and jealous.  Coach Wolf waxes Jerri's nether regions as a demonstration in class, and Jerri ends up with a great-looking bacon strip for the big dance.

Jerri tells Ricky she doesn't want to be new again at the school and that she can't go to the dance with him.  She goes to the dance with violent student Spike Jabber.  Ricky comes to the dance and Orlando instructs everyone to hit him with their golf clubs.  Jerri puts a stop to the impending violence and gives a moving speech.  She asks, "Is it so different to be new?  And is it so strange to be different?"  She says that new is bad, but she then segues into a metaphor about trees, which moves Orlando and inspires Principal Blackman to announce, "I hereby declare Ricky and Jerri 'Master' and 'Mistress' of 'Bogie Nights.' "  Jerri drives Ricky around the gym in a golf cart.  Spike Jabber sees this and starts throwing golf balls at the dance attendees.  Jerri saves the day by running down Spike with the golf cart.  After Jerri and Ricky discuss their pasts, they conclude that Ricky is the son Jerri gave away 15 years ago in exchange for a guitar.  Ricky tells her that he's leaving Flatpoint, due to his foster father's new job.  Jerri doesn't mind, since she doesn't have a job or any maternal instincts.  She's comforted by the fact that Ricky will be out there, not relying on her.  She still wants to make out with Ricky, but he leaves.  She drives away in the golf cart looking for Spike, since her "bacon strip's sizzlin'."  Jerri has learned three important lessons:  "Golf cleats can really rip up the gym floor," "the violent make passionate lovers" and "befriending new people can lead to having sex with your children...accidentally."

Mr. Jellineck scenes:  Mr. Jellineck finds Jerri in the hallway and has a talk with her while some violent students work out their aggression on the percussion instruments in the same room.  He has heard from a jealous little Filipino snitch that Jerri has been spending time with the new new student.  Mr. Jellineck explains that new students lead to bad reputations.  When Jerri objects, Mr. Jellineck informs, "If wishes and buts were clusters of nuts, we'd all have a bowl of granola!"  After telling Jerri to use her head and make some smart choices, he advises her to go to the dance with violent student Spike Jabber.  Mr. Jellineck is later seen at the dance, trying to stop Spike's golf ball rampage with Mr. Noblet, but their efforts are fruitless.

During the closing credits, Mr. Jellineck slow dances with a high school girl.
Interrupting Jerri's conversation with
her friends (one of whom prominently
declares her love for Principal Blackman    on the back of her notebook).
"Damn it, Jerri!"
Stating, "Spike Jabber's making eyes
at you" (and seeming much more
interested in Spike than Jerri is).
"If wishes and buts were clusters of      nuts, we'd all have a bowl of granola!"
Trying to restore order with Mr.
Noblet, to no avail.
