| Old Habits, New Beginnings This is the first Strangers with Candy episode, excluding the original pilot. In this episode, we are introduced to the characters: Jerri Blank (46-year-old high school freshman and former boozer, user and loser), teachers Chuck Noblet, Geoffrey Jellineck and Coach Cherri Wolf, Principal Onyx Blackman, Jerri's stepmother Sara, her father Guy and her brother Derrick. Although it's only Jerri's third day of school, she's already in danger of being "the laughingstock of Flatpoint high," because she's failing and might have to be held back. She learns that by accidentally killing another student with some homemade drugs and then throwing a memorial party for the girl, she can gain popularity. Mr. Noblet also tells her not to worry about her grades, since the party is an A+. In addition, Jerri gets pitied, since her pet turtle gets killed. Mr. Jellineck scenes: In this episode, Mr. Jellineck's first appearance is while he's painting "The Battle of Miami." Jerri asks "outsider" Mr. Jellineck for some advice, as she's having trouble making friends. He advises her to "dig around like a badger in a trash can...and then, just go with what you know." Mr. Jellineck is also seen later at the Poppy Downes Time Capsule dedication ceremony and Jerri's Poppy Downes Memorial Party. During the closing credits, Mr. Jellineck is seen dancing with Officer Savillion. |
