Obituary. Blair Enterprise, 13 Jul 2001. Alice Jensen ELWELL, 90. Alice JENSEN ELWELL died in her sleep on June 23, 2001, in San Marcos, Calif., of congestive heart failure. She was born on Sept. 28, 1910 on a farm north of Blair. her parents were well-known early farmers, Ed and Amy JENSEN. Following graduation from Blair High School, she attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, where she was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority. Following graduation from UNL, she taught high school English. During World War II, she served in the United States Navy as a Wave. She moved to California after her discharge in 1946, and worked as a technical writer for McDonnell Douglas. In 1953, she married William T. ELWELL and they continued to live in California. She became proficient in oil painting and gardening and was known for her skill at the bridge table and writing prize winning essays. She is survived by her husband, William, who is now living in a nursing home in Encinitas, Calif. She is also survived by her niece, Charlotte RHOADES GLINSKI, of California and four nephews, Kenneth RHOADES, Mick JENSEN, Curtis JENSEN, all of Blair, and John JENSEN of Boulder, Colo. Mrs. ELWELL was preceded in death by her sister, Lucille RHOADES and brothers, Earl JENSEN and Stanley JENSEN. A private memorial service will take place at the Blair Cemetery at a later date.
Obituary. Blair Pilot-Tribune, 20 Nov 2001. William T. ELWELL, 86. William T. ELWELL, 86, died Oct. 8, 2001, in Encinitas, Calif. William Thomas ELWELL was born Dec. 23, 1914, in Meadville, Penn. During World War II, he served in the Army, with the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. Following the war, he became an accountant. In 1953, he married former Blair resident, Alice JENSEN ELWELL, and they lived in southern California, where Mr. ELWELL was a member of the Masonic Lodge. he was an avid fisherman, and the couple traveled together extensively. After almost 50 years together, Mrs. ELWELL died just three months earlier than her husband. Mr. ELWELL is survived by his niece, Charlotte (RHOADES) GLINSKI, and four nephews, Kenneth RHOADES, Mick JENSEN, John JENSEN, and Curtis JENSEN, all of Blair. A private memorial service will be held Nov. 21, when Mr. and Mrs. ELWELL will be buried in the Ed and Amy JENSEN family plot at the Blair Cemetery.

Obituary. Blair Pilot-Tribune, 14 Oct 1963. Mrs. Ed A. JENSEN Buried Monday. Mrs. Ed. A JENSEN passed away suddenly at her home Friday morning October 11th. Amy Charlotte ANDERSON was born May 4, 1994 in the Rose Hill neighborhood northwest of Blair. Her parents were Peter and Sophia Charlotta ANDERSON. On April 20, 1904 she was married to Edward A. JENSEN. In 1954 they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. They were the parents of four children: Earl A. JENSEN, Mrs. J. Hilton RHOADES (Lucille), Stanley M. JENSEN, all of Blair and Mrs. Wm. L. ELWELL (Alice) of Garden Grove, California. All survive their parents. Mr. JENSEN died on May 20, 1959. Other survivors are her brother Carl G. ANDERSON of Chicago and a sister, Mrs. Walter NIELSEN (Maude) of Blair and five grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Blair, the Order of Eastern Star and the Rebekah Lodge. Funeral services were held October 14th (today) at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Gilbert REILAND officiating. Mrs. C.N. SUTTON was soloist. The BGendorf Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements with burial in the Blair cemetery. Pallbearers were: Howard KUBIE, Merton JENSEN, Gordon KEMPCKE, John VOSS, Alton JENSEN, and Darrell FERGUSON.
Obituary. Blair Enterprise, 4 Oct 1973. Earl A. JENSEN Burial Services Tuesday Afternoon. Mr. Earl A. JENSEN, life-time resident of Washington County, passed away late Saturday night, September 295h at the Blair Memorial Community Hospital. He had been ill since June. Mr. JENSEN was born February 18th, 1905, to the late Edward A. and Amy C. JENSEN at Blair. He graduated from the Blair High School and attended Dana College. On APril 19, 1930, he was married to Roberta A. WHORLOW at Sioux City. They observed their 25th wedding anniversary in 1955. He has farmed in the Rose Hill area since his marriage. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Blair and funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m. at this church. The Rev. James METZGAR officiated. Mr. and Mrs. Kermitt GOLL sang two vocal numbers. Survivors besides his wife Roberta are two sisters, Mrs. J. Hilton RHOADES (Lucille) of Blair and Mrs. William T. ELWELL (Alice) of Garden Grove, California, and a brother, Stanley M. JENSEN of Blair. The Bendorf Funeral Home was in charge of funeral arrangements and burial was made in the Blair Cemetery. Pallbearers were three nephews, Kenneth RHOADES, Michael and Curtis JENSEN, and Raymon RUWE, Harold E. RASMUSSEN and Arthur S. JENSEN, all of Blair.
Obituary. Blair newspaper, date unknown. Roberta Ann JENSEN, 85. Services for Roberta Ann JENSEN, 85 of Blair who died February 28, 1996 at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair were Saturday, March 2 at First Baptist Church in Blair. Burial was in the Blair Cemetery. Roberta Ann JENSEN was born October 26, 1910 at Kennard to Robert and Cora McCANN WHORLOW. She attended March School through the eighth grade and moved to Wayne, Nebraska where she graduated from high school. She also attended Wayne State College. She married Earl JENSEN of Blair in April of 1930. They lived on a farm northwest of Blair. After his death in 1973, she moved into Blair. She was a member of the Royal Neighbor Lodge, Blair Eagles and the First Baptist Church in Blair. She also belonged to several social clubs. In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents; sisters Mary JENSEN, Blanche CARLBERG and Gladys WHORLOW and brothers, Russell WHORLOW, Howard WHORLOW and Kenneth WHORLOW. She is survived by brothers, Merl WHORLOW of San Diego, California and Paul WHORLOW of Norfolk, Nebraska; a sister, Amy SCHULER of Wayne and nieces and nephews. Memorials may be directed to First Baptist Church or Memorial Community Hospital.

Obituary: (Blair Newspaper, 4 May
1978). Mrs. J. Hilton RHOADES Died Wednesday at Blair
Hospital. Mrs. J. Hilton RHOADES, a lifelong resident of Blair,
died Wednesday morning, May 3rd at the Blair Memorial Community
Hospital. Mrs. RHOADES had entered the hospital late
Friday, April 28th, after being stricken at her home by a paralytic
stroke. As this newspaper went to press the services were tentatively
set for Friday, pending notification of relatives from a distance.
Visitation is at the Campbell Funeral Home with services to be at the
Congregational Church in Blair. Lucille was born on November 17, 1907
to Ed and Amy JENSEN of Blair. She was a graduate of
Blair High School and later attended Dana College and the University of
Nebraska. She was married to J. Hilton RHOADES January 28, 1928
and the couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this year while on
a trip to California. Her husband survives her. She is also
survived by her two children, Kenneth RHOADES of Blair and
Mrs. John MALONE of Del Mar, California. There is one
sister, Mrs. William (Alice) ELWELL of Garden Grove,
California and one brother, Mr. Stanley M. JENSEN of Blair,
also surviving. Mrs. RHOADES has five
grandchildren. They are Ann and Brian MORRISON of
California, Mrs. Robert SUVERKRUBBE, Mark RHOADES
and Penny RHOADES, all of Blair. There are two
great-grandchildren. Mrs. RHOADES has been active in all
phases of work in the
Congregational Church in Blair. She taught a Sunday School class, sand
in the church choir, was assistant treasurer of the church for many years,
was on committees and held offices in the Church Ladies Women's Fellowship
and served as Deaconess. She was a Charter member of the local Chapter
EQ of P.E.O. and served as president. She was also president of the
Monday Afternoon Club and held offices in the McKinley Chapter of the Order
of Eastern Star. For several years she served on the Board of the
Masonic Eastern Star Home for Children in Fremont. Lucille was
especially interested in her flower garden. She was a member of the
Fontanelle Garden Club in Omaha and served a term as secretary. After
her children left home she became interested in bookkeeping work at the
Enterprise Office. She also enjoyed writing and for several years
wrote a column for the paper entitled "Tid Bits." Other
details of the service are pending. Memorials to the Congregational
Church.
Obituary: (Blair Newspaper, 1992). J. Hilton RHOADES, 83. Services for J. Hilton RHOADES, 83, Blair, were held Monday morning at 10:30 in the First Methodist Church in Blair. Mr. RHOADES passed away at an Omaha Hosp on Thu, July 16 from a heart attack following surgery. Rev. Harold SCHIABLE and Dr. Howard BAILEY officiated. J. Hilton RHOADES was born August 30, 1908. He was a graduate of Blair High School and attended Dana College. For a time, he was a school teacher in Washington County. In 1931, Mr. RHOADES entered the newspaper business with his father. He was a retired publisher of the Enterprise Pub Co., of Blair. In 1977, he sold his interest in the newspaper to his son, Kenneth H. RHOADES. He married E. Lucille JENSEN on January 28, 1928. She died in May of 1978. He was also preceded in death by his parents, John A. RHOADES and Blanche (HILTON) RHOADES, and one sister, Mrs. Philip (Lozein) O’HANLON. On June 21, 1979, he m Fern RATHMANN who survives him. Other survivors include children and their spouses: Ken and Virginia RHOADES of Blair, Charlotte and Dick GLINSKI of San Diego, CA; one sister, Mrs. Fred (Priscilla) LIND of Omaha; one step-daughter, Mrs. Gary (Kay) HOFMANN of Omaha. Grandchildren are: Candy and Robert SUVERKRUBBE of Blair, Penny and Mike OVERMANN of Waterloo, NE, Ann MORRISON and Brian MORRISON of CA. One step-grandchild is Mark HOFMAN of Kansas City, MO. Honorary pallbearers were J. Merton KUHR, Lyle HUNKINS, Ralph STEYER, Jess WRIGHT, M. Stanley JENSEN, Clifford HANSON, Bob MACHOLAN, Arvin HERNES, and Ed MCMULLEN. Active pallbearers were Mark RHOADES, Mark HOFMANN, Bob SUVERKRUBBE, Mike OVERMAN, Brian MORRISON, and Edwin JIPP. Burial was in Blair Cemetery under the direction of Campbell-Aman Funeral Home.

Obituary: (Blair Newspaper, 1990). Virginia JENSEN. Funeral services for Virginia JENSEN, age 71, of rural Blair, who died suddenly May 2, 1990 at Memorial Community Hospital were held Sat, May 5 at the First Lutheran Church in Blair with Rev. James McBRIDE officiating. Burial was in the Blair Cemetery. Virginia HERSHEY was born on September 14, 1918 at Stella, NE to John and Mildred TINKER HERSHEY. She grew up in Stella, Davenport, Grand Island and Fremont, Nebraska as her father, Rev. John C. HERSHEY served Lutheran Parishes in these communities. She graduated from Davenport, Nebraska High School and continued her education at Midland College in Fremont, Nebraska. Upon receiving her degree in education, she taught in Emerson and Blair, Nebraska Elementary Schools. On March 22, 1942, she married Stanley M. JENSEN in Fremont, Nebraska. She was a charter member and Past Vice President of Memorial Community Hospital Auxiliary, a charter member and chaplain of the P.E.O. Sisterhood Chapter I.F., member of the First Lutheran Church and served on the committee for the American Cancer Society fund raising, through the Arabian Horse Association of Nebraska. Upon retirement, Virginia enjoyed traveling extensively and was an active participant in the Arabian Horse industry throughout the Midwest. For many years she worked at the Blair Enterprise in the photography development department. She is survived by her husband, Stanley; three sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Gail JENSEN, Blair, John and Ingrid JENSEN, Boulder, CO and Curtis and Deanna JENSEN, Blair and four grandchildren, Troy, Abby, Lisa and Erik JENSEN.
Obituary: (Blair Newspaper, 1997). Stanley JENSEN, 83, 11/28/1913-9/24/1997. Stanley M. JENSEN, 83 of Blair died suddenly Wednesday, Sept. 24, 1997 at the home of Bob Hunt, where he had been staying with his son and daughter-in-law, Mick and Gail JENSEN. Services were Saturday at First Lutheran Church in Blair. Burial was in the Blair Cemetery. Stanley M. JENSEN was born on the family farm north of Blair on Nov. 28, 1913 to Edward A. and Amy (ANDERSON) JENSEN. He was a graduate of Blair High School. He attended Dana College for two years and then attended and graduated from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. He farmed all his life except for the time he served his country during World War II. On March 22, 1942 he married Virginia HERSHEY in Fremont. She preceded him in death on May 2, 1990. He ran the time clock, along with Bob JENSEN, for several years at Dana College. He was one of the first inductees into the Dana College Hall of Fame. He was a member of the Blair Lions Club, Dana Boosters and a past member of the Masons. He is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Gail of Blair; John and Ingrid of Boulder, Colo.; and Curtis and Deanna of Blair; four grandchildren and a sister and brother-in-law, Alice and Bill ELWELL of Sun City, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a sister and brother-in-law, Lucile and Hilton RHOADES; and a brother and sister-in-law, Earl and Roberta JENSEN. Memorials may be directed to First Lutheran Church Sunday School, Girls' Youth Softball Association or the YMCA Youth Program. Campbell-Aman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
