Obituary. Blair Enterprise. Nadene M. WULF, 88, of Blair, died Sunday, March 30, 2003, at Immanuel Hospital in Omaha. Funeral services were Thursday at Country Bible Church in Blair. Interment was in the Blair Cemetery. Nadene Marie WULF was born July 15, 1914, in Lenox, Iowa, to Ralph and Jennie (HANNAH) PEARCE. She moved to the Blair area in 1926. She was a 1932 graduate of Blair High School. On May 17, 1933, she married James WULF in Red Oak, Iowa. He preceded her in death in 1984. Mrs. WULF continued to live on their farm in the Orum area until moving to Blair in 1989. Mrs. WULF was an excellent cook, seamstress and loved to do embroidery. She had the talent of making things beautiful. For many years, she enjoyed decorating wedding, birthday, graduation and many other types of cakes. She enjoyed making special birthday cakes for her own children as well as her grandchildren and relatives. Many people will remember her for making their wedding day special with a beautiful cake. She was a great cook and was always the roll baker for family dinners, and always made a couple of extra dishes of food to make sure there was plenty. She also had a green thumb and could grow anything. Her plants thrived and she always had her flowerbeds full. On the farm, one of her favorite things to do was have her coffee on the patio and just observe the beauty of the fields, watched the finches play, the hummingbirds feed and admire her flowers. She had a loving heart and was very giving of her time and talent. Mrs. WULF also had a very strong faith in God. She was a quiet person, never complaining through the last years of her life. She endured much. She was also very independent and rarely asked for help. She is survived by her daughter, Bonnie BAKER of Omaha; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Robert and Eleanor WULF, David WULF, and Rodney WULF, all of Blair; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Article, Blair Enterprise, 17 Feb
1966. Blair's "Mr. Centennial." Saturday, February 12,
was a big day for Mr. L.P. SKOV, of the Good Shepherd Home in
Blair. That was Mr. SKOV's 99th birthday. Mr. SKOV
is
in
very good health. He can walk about his room, ride his wheel chair
down to the dining room each day for meals and take care of himself quite
well. With a big smile Mr. SKOV commented about his advancing
years by saying, "God treats me nicely. I know Him and He knows
me." He likes to watch television and still reads the newspapers,
magazines and books. Each morning he does all of the exercises he can
right along with "That TV fellow." His hand is steady enough
to write letters to his many friends in this country and his native
Denmark. He shook his head and admitted, "I have to look up some
of their names and addresses now. I just can't seem to remember all of
them." As the Enterprise photographer was ready to leave Mr. SKOV
said, "I'd like to have you come back next year to take my picture when
I'm 100." Our comment is that we will be more than happy to take
another picture next year. It is already marked down in the calendar
book. As far as this newspaper knows Mr. SKOV will be the only
person in Washington County who will be 100 years old the same year as the
State of Nebraska. Mr. SKOV should be the honored citizen of
Washington County during the Centennial year of 1967. Pictured above
Mr. SKOV looks over one of the many birthday cards he received on his
99th birthday. Mr. SKOV has three children still living in this
area. They are Mrs. Soren C. JENSEN of Blair, A.J. SKOV
of Blair and Iford SKOV of Alta, Iowa.
Obituary, Blair Enterprise, 10 Mar 1966. "Mr. Centennial", L.P. SKOV Died At Home Sunday. Ludwig Peter SKOV passed away quietly Sunday, March 6th, at the Good Shepherd Home, where he had resided for the past two and a half years. Mr. SKOV was born at Moen Norreby, Denmark on February 12, 1867 and came to the United States when 79 [19? - See following sentence] years of age. He was married to Khristine JACOBSEN in 1889 at Blair. They lived on a farm north of Spiker for many years and Mr. SKOV also operated a sorghum mill. In 1924 he retired from farming and moved to Blair where he continued working at gardening. Mr. SKOV observed his 99th birthday last month and was featured in a newspaper article in The Enterprise. He was active and alert, and looking forward to his birthday in 1967 when he would have been 100 years of age and would have been Mr. Centennial of Washington County, when Nebraska observes its 100th anniversary. Mr. and Mrs. SKOV were the parents of five children. His wife and two daughters, Anna and Mrs. Hilda (C.W.) CHRISTIANSEN preceded him in death. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Soren (Hannah) JENSEN of Blair, two sons, Victor SKOV of Alta, Iowa and Alfred J. SKOV of Blair. Account: Mary JAROSZ became the bride of Philip KEMPCKE during a 2:00 p.m. ceremony which was held Saturday,
3 Dec 1977, at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church. Father Daniel GALAS
and Rev. Robert ALBERS officiated at
the ceremony. Parents of the couple
are Mr. and Mrs. Ted JAROSZ and Mr.
and Mrs. Gordon KEMPCKE all of
Blair. The bride chose a gown chiffonella
over bridal taffeta for her wedding. The gown featured a round sheer yoke
with lace inserts, a high neckline and sheer layered sleeves. The empire
waist and apron-effect skirt were trimmed with Venise lace and lace
motifs. The skirt of her gown extended into a chapel length train.
She wore a matching fingertip veil which was edged with lace and was held in
place by a marionate cap. She carried a bouquet of white roses, spider and
snowflake mums. Her going-away corsage, an orchid, was in the
center. Pat JESSEN, Blair, was maid of honor, Kristie THOMPSON, Debbie KEMPCKE,
both of Blair, Elaine FORTSON,
Lincoln, and Pam MOORE, Blair, were
bridesmaids. The bridesmaids wore
polyester mint green dresses with a V-neck and an A-line skirt. The bodice
was trimmed with a dark green velvet insert. A long sleeved dark green
velvet jacket accented their dresses. Michelle IVERSEN
was flowergirl. Ringbearer was
Brice JESSEN. Joe JESSEN
was Candle Bearer. Paul KEMPCKE
was the bridegroom’s best man. Groomsmen
were Dan THOMPSON, Jeff KEMPCKE,
John JAROSZ, and Kitt KELLY. The men of the wedding
party wore dark green tuxedos accented with velvet on the lapels and
pockets. Jim SAPP,
Dwight PETERSON, Bruce KEMPCKE,
and Gordon PLUMMER were ushers.
Rev. John PETERSON was soloist at the ceremony.
The bride's mother wore an ivory dress with a high neckline accented by a gold
and silver jacket. The bridegroom's mother wore a rust-colored dress with
a ruffled bodice and matching belt. Both mothers wore orchid
corsages. A reception was held in the church hall and at the American
Legion Lounge following the ceremony. Dee JAROSZ poured
coffee, Susan HILGENKAMP and Ellen HARMS
poured punch. Karen BEYER
and Sue PLAGER cut and served
cake. The groom’s cake was cut
and served by Debbie SCHMITZ and Pam BATENHORST. Kari and Rita IVERSEN
were in charge of the gift table. Carolyn
DUNAWAY was in charge of the guest
book. The couple is residing at
Kimberly Manor Apartments since their return from a wedding trip to Colorado
where they went skiing. The
bride is employed at NE Methodist Hospital.

Synopsis:
Betty Jensen remembers "Mick" Jensen as a member of Chris E. Jensen's shelling crew. She remembers that he was the "cut-up" of the crew - always playing practical jokes and doing funny things while skillfully getting them blamed on everyone else in the crew. She never knew his real name was William Jennings Bryan!
