Birthdates of the children are based on the 1850 census in Keosauqua, IA.
Deb and Dale MORROW, compilers, located the graves of Thomas and Jane (HUNTER) MILLER on a visit to Keosauqua, IA in the summer of 1986. Inscription on Thomas's grave: Thomas MILLER, Born in KY July 2, 1795, Died in Keosauqua March 17, 1879. Aged 84 yrs 8 mos 15 days. Inscription on Jane's grave: Jane HUNTER, wife of Thos. MILLER, Born in Staunton, VA November 11, 1796, Died in Keosauqua March 1, 1879. Aged 83 Yrs 3 mos 19 days. On the back of Thomas's stone were the words: "Come on friends/Immortality/And Eternal Life/Just ahead" and "No chilling winds or poisonous breath/Can reach that healthful shore/Sickness & sorrow pain & death/Are felt and feared no more."
"Nannie Miller" wife of F.M. Miller was buried next to Thomas and Jane.
History of Wapello County, IA, Western History Company, Chicago, 1878. p. 560: George W. BOWEN, proprietor of flouring mill, b. Jackson County, OH 21 Feb 1831, migrated with parents to Shelby County, OH near Sidney, at age 4, to Adams County, IN at age 8, and to Ottumwa, IA in Oct 1848. He worked in the milling business from 1851-1857 and purchased half interest in 1854. He m1. Ellen M. HACKWORTH in 1854. She d. 28 Dec 1862. They had four children, three who were living in 1878: William P. BOWEN, Clara E. BOWEN who married Christopher HAW, and Emma A. BOWEN. He m2. Angelina S. Miller on 12 May 1864. She was born in Champaign County, OH. They had one child, George M. BOWEN. They are members of the Main Street M.E. Church.

Last Will and Testament of Thomas
Miller
I Thomas Miller a resident of Keosauqua Van Buren County Iowa, of sound mind
and lawful age, in view of the uncertainty of life do make and publish and
declare my last will and testament in manner following, but 1st I desire that
all my just debts and funeral expenses be paid and that my body have decent
burial. 2nd To my beloved wife, Jane Miller, in the event she
outlives me, I give and bequeath all my property both real and personal for
her own proper use and benefit during the term of her life, for her
maintenance and support and the right to use, either of the profits or
principal, all or so much thereof as may be necessary to comfortably maintain
and support her as long as she shall live but it is my desire that the
personal property, except the household furniture, be first exhausted, before
any of aforesaid late be sold or dispersed for that purpose. 3rd
At her death, I desire that my beloved daughter, Sarah J. Miller, who has
remained with me during my declining years, shall have my present homestead
and all the household goods of whatever kind, of which I shall die possessed
and will which shall be remaining at the death of my wife aforesaid, and I do
hereby give and bequeath said property to my daughter as her absolute property
in fee simple, subject nevertheless to the aforesaid life estate. 4th
At the death of wife aforesaid, I do hereby give and bequeath all the
remainder of my property both real and personal. share and share alike, to my
beloved children or their lawful heirs = to wit = To my daughter Mary Ann
Seaman one share, To my daughter Kerilla B Painter on share To my daughter,
Angeline Bowin, one share, To my daughter Sarah J. Miller one share, To my
daughter Elisabeth Burns one share. To my daughter Martha Thornburg. one
share To my daughter Ellen Frances Mast one share And one share to the heirs
of my daughter Rebecca Purnell deceased - to wit Mary Purnell Charles Purnell
Emma Purnell Amelia Purnell and Frank Purnell said one share to be equally
divided between them. 5th In the event I shall outlive my wife aforesaid
then, at my death, I desire my property to go to my children as indicated by
Divisions 3 and 4 of this instrument and so hereby bequeath the same.
6th All former wills that may have been by me executed are hereby
revoked and declared null and void and I do hereby nominate and appoint my
daughter Sarah J. Miller as Executrix of this my last will and testament.

The above and foregoing instrument consisting of three pages on one sheet of paper was by the said Thomas Miller this day signed sealed and published declared by him to be his last will and testament in our presence, we, being in each others presence, at the time of the execution there of as aforesaid.
