DAR Index, v55, p.404:  #54920, Mrs. Clara TOWNLEY BRIDGE.  David MILLER enlisted 1775, as a private in Col. Moses RAWLINGS regiment and died 1778, while in service.  He was born in Prince George's County, MD.

Henry C. Peden, Jr.  Revolutionary Patriots of Maryland, 1775-1783; A Supplement MILLER, David, of Frederick County [MD], private in Continental Service, died in 1777, according to testimony by Col. William BEATTY, one of the Court Justices, on 21 Mar 1783.  His widow, Rachel SMITH was granted 45 pounds by the Court (Ref:  Frederick County Orphan's Court Minutes).

History of Frederick County, MD:  p. 85, Moses RAWLINGS authorized to obtain military subscriptions for the Skipton Hundreds.  p. 95, William BEATTY listed as Lt. Colonel.

Internet article on Rev. Robert MILLER:  His father (David) was born in America, of Scotch parentage, and died while a soldier for the cause of American independence, leaving a widow and six children, of whom Robert, then only 11 years of age, was the oldest.

History of Western Maryland:  The General Assembly 1778 passed an act for the relief of the maimed officers, soldiers and seamen from Maryland engaged in the Revolutionary cause.  Under its provisions, those in necessitous circumstances were entitled to half-pay, and the children of those deceased to certain annuities.  The records of the Orphan's Court show that the children and wives of the following soldiers from western Maryland availed themselves of this act:
    Rachel Smith, widow of David Miller, died in service.
